Haven’t drank liquor in 12 days. It got out of hand again. I feel…ok. Go me. Wouldn’t mind diving in a swimming pool full of liquor right now though.
Working on 3 remixes… well, trying to. The samples are sorted out at least. I’m tired lol. I am not very compositionally motivated lately, but I’ve been learning a fuck ton and journaling about the things I want to do once I start getting excited by life again. Right now I want the asteroid to wipe us all out. C’est la vie.
Also because she is so amazing my wife scored 2 free cannabis vapes from a customer at work who works at a dispo. I am no longer allowed to leave the house with the weed vapes in my pocket. I am going to strap this one to my desk, attach a tube, and puff it like the caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland – i have lost an innumerable amount of vape pens).
Life is good. I wish my stupid brain would release the chemicals that help me agree emotionally.

I set up a template for all of my generic electronic music projects and right off the bat I’ve got 4 brand new projects being made for an upcoming album (keep your eyes peeled and your ears boiled)
It’s amazing how quickly I lost inspiration because I didn’t have any basic things to start with, but NO MORE!!!
(also it’s mostly bass music, but I’m trying to mix in some hard-dance :3)

DIY templates and presets really save you so much time. Having to dive into systems and menus when your writing juices are flowing just doesn’t mix, so having that shit set up well in advance really seals the deal.
That’s my answer when people say they’re uninspired, lately. It’s a perfect time to organize, create some wild instruments and save those FX chains! Wire up those macros, or even create a shorthand UI for the best controls. It really matters later on!

Oh yeah, and I’ve got everything set up for a basic project. A full drum rack, 3 bass channels, even channel a dedicated to hype layers…
I was considering assigning the mixer tracks to the playlist lanes too, but because I layer about 5 snares and don’t bounce them to one audio file I think just routing them is good enough. I have one project out of the new 4 that isn’t organised properly and it’s honestly doing my head in trying to find little bits of audio that don’t sit right. I feel like instead of wasting time trying to create new mixers I’ve evolved to wasting time making sure everything is neat 
But hey, even if 5 snares and 6 hype layers seems excessive, I feel like I’m a myuseeshan

Duuuuude… Having templates on your DAW so that you can just open and start playing something: so fucking key! I’ve got more templates than I need, but I always date them and make sure to show what they are for. I have probably about 10 of those “Untitled-#.als” sitting there. I’ve been meaning to see what those are all about…
Lately I’ve been using this template another producer-tutorial guy – and I did try finding him in my YT history, no luck. he posted a free DL in his video description (Ableton 11 and up). All native devices and whatnot, and also, what a nice guy… he also included 128s of kicks, snares, & hats. all nicely setup and ready to go in the drum rack.
If you don’t know about the 128s technique (props to ill.Gates), it’s one of the more useful things to know in Ableton. It’s a mothafkn time-saver. no endless scrolling in your browser/finder, very easy to build, and endless possibilities/functionalities.

Last night my living room ceiling fan crapped out on me. After some investigation, I found out the plastic housing for the directional switch had broken and wasn’t connecting to the board. Took it apart, super glued it back together, and now my fan works again!
A first for me.

on monday i’ll have been a month without drinking any hard alcohol. i’m only just now starting to feel less anxious/sick/manic/out of it/irritable/fiendish and gaining the first glimmer of clarity. finally. it’s so crazy how shit goes from “oh i’ll just have a couple this weekend fuck it we’re on vacation” to “DAY 4 BITCHESSSSSSS!!! I ACCIDENTALLY THE WHOLE BOTTLE BUT DON’T WORRY IT’S 7AM, the BODEGA AND DONUT SHOP ARE OPENING BAYBEEEEEEEE fuck yeah, fuck everything I’ll DRIVE and WHO’S GOT A BAG also who are you talking to YOU’RE THE ONLY ONE HERE, WAYNE. oh.” in .5 seconds, and you don’t even really notice until (hopefully) you and (hopefully not) somebody else notice. the absolutely charming thing is that being a “GIANT AIR QUOTES functional unquote” addict is you get to learn by trial and error just how much you can get away with or when to stop when you’re ahead. but yeah anyway, hooray for me woohoo.
