Andy Samberg is the boss!
I’d go with this one. My wife also loved it ![]()
I still like most of the movies I liked when I was younger and can usually judge if I’d still like it, but every once in a while I’m surprised to really not enjoy something I used to like. The last one was Oldboy.
And yeah, Jacob’s Ladder held up. I found it more relatable being older. The print is great as well.
Welcome to David Lynch lol.
Hey, at least she likes stuff like that and not the Dumbo remake or some shit. You should tell her about the Cinema Shock podcast retrospective on Lynch (they’re in the middle of his later films right now). They’re a comedic/informative movie podcast. My only nitpick is that one of the hosts really doesn’t like Lynch at all and is sort of a wet blanket in parts to the point where I wonder why he’s not just sitting this series out. David Lynch: Absurd Encounters — Cinema Shock
My problem with Lynch is that his movies are weird enough to be……weird, but not weird enough to really strike me. It was the same problem I had with The Lighthouse.
After eight years of sitting on the fence, I bought the bluray of Martyrs (France 2008) and really liked it. It was one of those movies I was intimidated to give a rewatch, but I thought it was really good in the end.
Well, a week later it was released on 4k.
tried to give it a rewatch, but had to turn it off because it was a bitt TOO nihilistic for my current mood (currently fighting burnout from working 13 hour days for five years).
I feel like this movie should come wrapped in barbed wire, so I took a sharpie to the back of the art to cover up a spoiler. I’d normally never deface my physical media, but I think Pascal Lagier would approve.
If Jason mamoa is lobo in Supergirl
I’ll be like finally why wasn’t this done years ago.
Snyder boys…joss whedon ruined justice league…
And after watching a bit of rebel moon…Zack Snyder can direct but his scripts and plot storylines are subpar with all due respect.
James Gunn just do us all a favor
Remove the fan service and happy play fun time stuff.
And tbh Gunn is just gonna rip off the 90s and 00s Warner Brothers dc animated universe cartoons…
If Nolan wrote the scripts and Snyder and Gunn collab directed that would be perfect.
But I have a life so who cares anyways about the film dcu and MCU.
wow i feel the absolutely opposite way lmao other than the whedon part
gunn = superdog 9______9
The Arrow TMNT collection was just released, I only got it for the first movie.
Gotta love that original poster art, babyyyyy!
The print looks great. Haven’t seen it in over a decade. That movie has aged like fine wine. Also best April and Casey.
I won’t be watching the other two any time in the near future lol.
My friend gifted me Son of the White Mare (Hungary 1981) on bluray.
It’s fucking awesome. Highly recommended. A wholly unique and singular vision.
Sick, I have a 1080P BD print of this one. Is arrow running their own scans? Sounds like they could get more out of it if they were.
Either way, fun movie. Worth a watch with some ‘zas every now and then for sure. I’ve seen it a couple times over the last few years.
Yeah, Arrow prints are legit good. Not sure about what’s done in house. I know them and Shout Factory share a lot of releases (Arrow releases Shout stuff in the UK).
I was given a $100 cinema gift cert. I went to see Avatar: Fire and Ash in 4D. Fuck, what a weird experience. It may just be the 40 yo in me, but I will never do 4D again. I felt like I was going to be thrown from my seat on several occasions and couldn’t even keep a drink in the drink holder.
Stunning visually…but zero relatable or connectable characters. I don’t understand why JC is making 5 of these movies. Fire and Ash went for 3.5 hours and I was so done after 1 hour of being jostled around, punched in the back and sprayed in the face haha. Way too overstimulating.
The 3D is too blurry and the sound in the theatre was the worst part. I have personally tuned way better sounding cinemas than this one.
Ok boomer, rant off.
tbh man I can’t say for certain but I think pretty much everyone kind of feels that theatrical 3D is shit. it makes my wife and i so dizzy. give me a chair that reclines and a regular sized theater display and I’m golden.
but. yes. complaining about it publicly shows how boomer we are.
@Manton and @wayne , I’ve never heard any good stories about 4DX, be it actual people or podcasts, youtube, etc.
I hate 3D, but will admit that Gravity was fucking awesome in 3D.
Snagged a copy of the limited German 4K release of the Hulu Hellraiser, which I’m a fan of. Didn’t even know about this until a couple days before release. It’s the only way to get a physical 4K of the movie. Shipping cost more than the disc, and it tool a while to get here, but it was satisfying to watch something I never expected to be released on physical media. Looks great, too.
I also watched Predator Badlands and hated it. I don’t like any of the recent Alien or Predator stuff being released, but I did like Prey. This movie looked like Avatar and was aimed at 11 year olds (honestly, I always feel a little too old for Predator whenever a new one comes out, but this was something else entirely).
i was going to get upset if you didn’t like Prey. That movie was good. and right now i am like 0 for 5 with thinking of something you might like then watching you “nah” it. but it’s ok it’s ok. part of my growing up journey is realizing sometimes, even if i like it, that doesn’t mean @Vlantis will.
movie-going is tough these days. or at least, finding content that you like. hmmm maybe not even that… maybe it’s the content that we expect to like because we liked past iterations of it, and now there’s this ingrained lack of tolerance/patience/desire to sit 2-3 hours waiting for it to end. maybe that’s just me?
look i don’t ask for much. an aggregate viewership rating of “kind of ok” translates to “watchable” from my standards. idk. it’s easy to tell within a few minutes if a movie is going to be crap or not.
and this is not out of boredom, neither is it out of anger. just don’t have time to watch something that was clearly not made for me as a viewer. it’s much more of a “nah” and a shoulder shrug, then i go off and find something else to do. what would cause anger is if i was somehow forced to sit through it. i treat social media the same way. once i start to not be entertained in the way i want, i shut it off.
look. i know i’m not insane and it’s not just me, because both my wife (who is 100% stable and sane) and i will both glance at each other at about the 15 minute mark and say, nearly in sync, “you feelin this?”
“naaaah.”
got through about 37 minutes of the new jurassic park. the “cHaRaCter DeVeLoPmEnT”…

…made me want claw my eyeballs out and shove them all the way inside my ear canals, then the following water dinosaur boat chase scene aaaaaalmost convinced me to keep watching. but then i didn’t.
i can’t think of one DC/Marvel movie in the last few years that i didn’t shut off within the first 10-20 minutes.
don’t even get me started on Twisters. that was in theaters. i almost vomited blood when they introduced the cowboy turd that clamps his truck to the ground in a tornado then shoots off fireworks. but i’m telling you, it’s not “i am angry at the producers writers and actors for making this” blood puke, but rather a “my soul is rejecting this” blood puke.
Also I turned off Stranger Things final season about 10 minutes in. just not interested in it. the reactions i’ve been seeing from fans has been more entertaining.
oddly enough i’ve kept up with cobra kai, and it’s like… really fucking awful. i don’t know. i guess i’m weird dude. last night i spent an hour watching old chuck berry sha-na-nah videos that somehow made it on to one of my archive drives. idk man idk.
I think at this point Hollywood will use AI to generate some scripts to movies…those movies will tank and become so formulaic that independent films on YouTube….will be the go to.

The Housemaid

Nothing exactly life-changing but a rather satisfying movie altogether. Seyfried is her usual amazing self and Sweeney is a better actress than people credit her for. 7/10
No other Choice

Another win for Park Chan-Wook. Dark humor with a rather evident critique of our modern times. Sad and funny at the same time, when laughing about the absurdity of the lives we’re forced to live is mostly all that’s left. 8/10
Birth has FINALLY been released on something other than DVD (Criterion put it out on 4K). It’s one of my holy grails and in my top five favorite movies.
Just got my copy in yesterday (all my mail has been delayed lately) and stayed up until 3 in the morning watching it.
I love it. It’s so FUCKING good. I highly recommend it. Whenever I recommend something I always say just go into it blind. An absolutely entrancing movie.
Finally watched Together. I thought it sucked, and the last third was irritating as hell.
Also watched Hallow Road out of nowhere and thought it was fucking great. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Go into it blind, becuase the synopsis ruins it as usual. Actually just go into most movies blind. It’s the smart thing to do.
If I remember well, we didn’t even get past the first third before turning it off ![]()
Thanks for the tip on this one, I’ll have to check it. And 100% agree on going to most movies blind.
