The Hardware Megathread

re: synth problem …at one point my setup was so big/complicated I spent more time routing shit and tracking down problems than writing music…making a huge setup function swiftly costs a lot of extra money on top of the instruments and FX…patch bays, mixers, audio interfaces…I would have had to invest at least an extra grand to be happy with the workflow.

In the last few years I made more music with less stuff. My latest EP was Mpc only, the previous one. Akai Force and Arturia Microfreak.

If I had more time I think I could have more gear…

Said that, I have a 1010 Music Fireball due for delivery today.

That track you sent us sounded really really good

We think we’ve done enough buying of synths for at least the next year, and should probably learn how to get the best out of them. We can make perfectly good music with what we currently have, so we’re going to do that

Awww, could this be any cuter???

WOW, that is the cutest synth ever. I’ll be really curious at how you get on with programming it. My far future digital poly synth purchase still feels like it’ll be an Argon8 but maybe your experience will sway me and save me space and some $$$

First impression is good but definitely not for the sausage fingered.
It sounds big, easy/logic to program but with some odd choices, for example I can set cutoff and resonance on the touch screen but not filter envelopes…
Will report once I spend more time with it.
Also, on the Mpc I don’t have usb midi, I’ll need to investigate but it might a decision to avoid interference as it is usb powered

It could be cuter… in purple. With some stickers perhaps. Kittens and rainbows I think.

That is like the dinkiest and cutest synth ever

That probably rules it out for me lol. And, yes, that is strange that some basic sound shaping options are touch only while others are accessed through the knobs. Though I don’t pretend to have the kind of mind that would successfully figure out the work flow of a synth like that.

The hand is very realistic. Prolly would fool most.

10/10 would impulse buy that

So it’s probably a good job it isn’t cuter

Hiwatt Marshall is a genius. Without him, albums like Too Dark Park would not sound exactly as amazing as they sounded when released 30 years ago. I’ll love him forever for helping take Skinny Puppy (and many others) to exceptional highs.

I know I’m a week behind. Carry on, folks!

Huge fan of that era SP. Marshall’s YouTube has been great for validating some things I do in the studio. I’m in the process of co-producing and mix/mastering an industrial artist so I try to tune in whenever I can.

One thing about the Fireball drives me nuts. The knobs that scroll through the position is really slow, which makes scrolling through a wavetable to find a sweet initial spot quite painful.
Which is a crime on a wavetable synth…

Of course one would want fine control but they should have done something like a push knob so you can have two scroll speeds. Push+turn for fast scroll.

Maybe if enough people bomb support with feature requests :eyes:

Go tell that to the people on Elektronauts LMAO. But honestly, 1010 seems pretty cool like that. I haven’t updated mine yet but they made a ton of great updates to the Bluebox.

Just wrapped 3 days in LA. Completely reconfigured, re wired for audio and midi a studio running 3 Apollo interfaces, 2 midi interfaces, a mellotron, Moog One, Moog Model S, Oberheim OB6, Korg Minilogue, Modular Synth and all the pedals, one tracking room w a piano and a percussion room all ready to record.

Good times. The band only showed up the last day so we could collaborate on their ableton template, a lot of trust went into this overhaul. Sometimes my job is pretty great.

Moog one is cool but I have no desire to own one. It probably comes down to the “wow factor” in the presets. Sure a preset could be a whole song, but that’s not how I compose ¯_(ツ)_/¯
