Gamers what games are you playing? :)

You might be able to play that one in your web browser now, I know there’s one you can do that with.

One of the rare plus points of being forcibly unemployed: video games.

In the last 4 months, I have managed to finally play & finish games that had remained untouched for years:

  • Far Cry 5
  • Uncharted - The Lost Legacy
  • Prey
  • Stray

Also started:

  • Alan Wake Remastered
  • Oddworld Soulstorm
  • Nier Automata

Currently aiming to finish:

  • Dishonored 2

PS: Prey is one of the best games of all-time, especially if like me, you try to do all the side quests.

^ I just finished the System Shock remake, and started the SS2 rerelease. After that it’s Prey. (Why do my replies never seem to show up as propper replies?)

Edit: also attempted to fix stick drift in one of my controllers. If it doesnt work, I’ve got the replacement part saved for next month’s Amazon purchase.

Another edit: I have a worn out potentiometer (orange discoloration), so I’m nabbing a replacement pack for cheep.

That remake has been on my list for a while, but I can’t buy new games right now, just going through my pile.

You’ll love Prey! Take your time with it, explore, don’t read about it. You will probably die a lot before you figure out some things but once you get it, it’s just phenomenal!

I played SS2 a loooong time ago, but never got all that far. It used to be too scary back in the day lol. I’m liking it after a bit of a learning curve and finally got to the The Big Reveal. It was spoiled many years back (and the game art ruins it lol), but still cool to finally experience it for myself.

I bought Prey years and years ago, but haven’t touched it, so I’m looking forward to finally playing it!

HOLY FUCKING FUCK

First person - not another lame multiplayer-only!

Doug Bradley is Pinhead again!!!

The trailer below is the uncensored version (not the YouTube one)

^I’m not going to watch the trailer since I know I’ll be picking up the game, but consider me excited.

Controller update: Old discolored potentiometer on left VS new on the right. Ended up replacing all of them since I had it open, and the problem is fixed. Cost me ten bucks for ten replacement parts.

I updated a few of my console’s ROM collections last night, which is a chore because I have to go and dig hard drives/SD cards out of often inaccessible cases. BUT, now I have some new stuff to try on PS2, Gamecube (actually deleted some duplicates off my Gamecube that I have on my PS2 now because I only have a 64gb SD card in there and it was packed full and games would stutter on intro cutscenes really bad), and via MisTER some Saturn and PS1 games. Got all my chores done yesterday too so I can just play stuff today.

@White_Noise is that on your PC or are you actually digging out old rom dumps you’ve made yourself?

@morphic unfortunately I can’t get Prey to run 60fps on my steam deck without it looking like shit, and the PS4 version runs at 30fps (never had a PS5 patch). I want to get a new laptop, but can’t justify the money at this moment in time, so I’m stuck playing Aliens: Colonial Marines lol! (It’s honestly fine).

I finished System Shock 2. I’ve never wanted to kill a villian more than in that game. It was okay, but I’m System Shocked out.

I’m getting the ROMs from online, a good chunk (but not all) are games I actually own but I don’t rip them myself. Most of my consoles are modded to play ROMs without physical media. So my PS2 uses a hard drive attachment and a SATA adapter to play everything off a hard drive. My Dreamcast, Gamecube, and Mister all run off SD cards. So you just throw the ROMs onto the respective console and then go. I like that I get to use original controllers (or equivalents) on my TV.

MisTER isn’t an original console, but it plays almost everything up to PS1/Saturn/N64, including a bunch of arcade games. It’s kind of like MAME but in hardware. It’s definitely overkill, but I have had terrible luck trying to wrap my head around emulators in the past so I just try and stick with hardware solutions where I can.

I played the PS4 game that is “enhanced for PS4 Pro” on the PS5 and it looked really good on a big TV. Why do you absolutely want 60fps for that game?

IMO, aside from some hectic moments trying not to die and having to escape fast, it’s not a speed run & gun type thing at all - it’s more attuned to be explored thoroughly, carefully (and stealthily).

PUBG mostly. Best FPS ever made

I can’t stand 30 fps if I know there’s a better way to play it. I’ve been spoiled. I plan on getting a new laptop on a black Friday or cyber Monday deal, so it won’t be too long from now.

Huh. For me it’s a preference, but it’s not a dealbreaker. The last couple games on my PS5 I’ve played at 30 FPS (Yakuza 2 and Death Stranding 2). And at first it held me back, like I didn’t play those games as much and focused on other stuff for a bit. But I got used to it after a week of playing like half an hour a day. I’m still working on DS2 now and it’s not jarring when I jump to that from 60+ FPS anymore. Part of that could be that I expect that in those games now and I’m used to how they feel at that framerate. IDK.

And on the N64/PS3 forget it. N64 is like 7-20 FPS in Perfect Dark. It regularly dips into single digits. Not ideal but still playable - as the developers intended if you can believe it. PS3 has some janky games too.

Yep, if it’s the only way to play the game, I’m fine with it (Gravity Rush 2 is one of my favorite games, although I would LOVE an update), but I’d rather wait to play some games I have if I currently can’t get them to run well (Scorn looks so visually interesting that I decided to wait until I have something better to play it on).

Deltarune =^D

Sword of the Sea is the new spiritual sequel to both Journey and Abzu (there are callbacks to both) via hoverboard, but fails to be better than either of them. Not terrible.

Here’s some screenshots from my PS5.

I’m a boring person and I have been playing just Counter Strike 2 lately.

Finished Dishonored 2, which was rather excellent. I did a low-chaos run all the way through. While frustrating at times, it allowed me to plan better and take my time to figure the best pathways to address challenges. The time-travel level was like nothing I ever encountered in any videogame. Fantastic!!! What a shame that Arkane got dismantled

Next up, I may go back to Fallout 4 and restart it entirely, as I’ve forgotten whatever levels I completed all those years ago. That, or Cyberpunk 2077, which I left at early stages as well.

It’s funny, I bounced off of Dishonored 2 really fast. Maybe because it was right after I finished Dishonored 1.

If you pick up Fallout 4, I highly recommend the Sim Settlements mod. It really improves the settlement management and gives the game an actual story early on. I think my biggest problem with FO4 compared to FO3 or FONV was that you felt really funneled straight into the main quest without any obvious points to jump out and explore other stuff - like it always felt for some reason like the main quest was the most important thing and that to focus on something else was wrong.

Sim Settlements totally solves that. It gives you a story that has stakes outside the main quest, but can also let you go and do other stuff. And it actually gives you a reason to explore the 98% of the map that the main quest doesn’t use.
