i chose this because it has been one of the most beautiful tracks i have heard on IDMf since i became a member. Working with Aaron i learned more about the music business side and that changed me dramatically as an artist. This track showcases Anodyne as what he was at that time. And to honor that part of him, as his artist name, i wanted to pay tribute as best i could to his music. I used a loop of his track, Consigned To Obivion, where i simply slightly altered the eq to reflect a moderate version of the full track. Just enough to make it feel worthy of respect. I want to be clear i altered a bare minimum of the loop sampled in order to secure the integrity of the track, while adding my own version and movement to this.

For my track, I sampled the opening guitar loop from MA by Geelist on IDMf 064 (Forms Vol. II). This track always stood out to me as one of the prettier things the netlabel ever got its hands on, from this guitar part to a string section and a bubbling bassline, it’s a lot of disparate elements that Geelist made work together pretty naturally all things considered. I was using auto slice (slicex in FL Studio) to be able to rearrange the melody a little bit for some variations. It was then that I accidentally tuned it down an octave and I suddenly had a second guitar part. Hard panned them left and right, sent them each to different reverb on the opposite channel, and that was basically the song.

Track Name: Higgs Paradox

The original track higgs boson was my spin on idm for IDMf050. The beat glitches and texture that i choose for the track reminded me of the choatic order of the quantum realm. And in music the beat is what gives the track order and form just like how the higgs boson does to quantum particles in order to create matter. And to me the beat is like the higgs boson of music.

To create the original beat granular synthesis and a bunch macros that switched between effects was used…no i didnt use dblue glitch lol. In the reinterpretation though i resampled some elements in order to give the peice a different form. Basically this entire track was a musical “what if…” so to speak…

And being that the track exists simultaneously in different forms it sort of reminded me somewhat of the paradoxical nature of reality…hence why i dubbed my musical “what if” higgs paradox.

“The Automatic Man” (complete track + additional vocal stems Vlantis sent me later) from IDMf055.

Binary Pulse - “Symmetrical Tree” (intro) from IDMf001.

The “Devil Dance” EP by Vlantis (IDMf055) really spoke to me when it was released, I loved the vocals, lyrics and harmonies, and the track “The Automatic Man” was an easy choice for me when thinking about what to remix. I took the complete vocals of the tracks and what got stuck with it from the melody after doing some stem separation, speeding it all up to DNB BPM. Later on, I got the vocal stems from Vlantis and replaced some of the separated parts. I also added a short melodic part of the track “Symmetrical Tree” by Binary Pulse from the “In-Depth Melodics” compilation (IDMf001), which is another favourite of mine in the IDMf catalogue. At the same time, I got a request to dig out the samples from my “Kallisti” EP (IDMF052) again and luckily still found some stuff on an external HD, so after mangling some Amen breaks for the beats I took some of the bassline stems from the tracks “Kallisti” and “Marame”. Finally, I added an additional synth track (a simple stab made with Serum). In general, I aimed to keep the feeling of the vocals from the original track by Vlantis, only doing some slight changes, and put everything into a faster DNB context.

Yeah, I love that track obviously. Each track on this release has a place in my heart but the use of Length and Brecht by Halogen really brought the Terrapin track home for me.
