What are you listening to?

I don’t really like Meshuggah that much, but I definitely appreciate them. They opened a lot of musical doors for people about what’s acceptable. To paraphrase Dean Ween about Rush, I’m into the idea of Meshuggah.

That’s very close to how I feel too. I listen to them more analytically than anything else. But what’s wrong with that? I do this because of my extreme love for music that is borderline obsessive, and one way I express that is spending a lot of time stripping down certain music to the core, and only music that I think is truly interesting or important in some way.

But man, you do have to admit they fucking ROCK though. holy shit. I want to see them live. tbh though it has the same effect on me that ambient music does. my wife doesn’t seem to think so lol

Meshugganah…oi vey…

All jokes aside

It means mad as in cray cray in yiddish.

This is probably the closest I’ll get to pop music (call me cringe but this shit slaps, especially 3:24)

Nothing “cringe” about it from a “how it sounds” perspective to me. Reminds me of a lot of the music from Bemani rhythm games, like DDR / Beatmania, etc. (especially the part you timestamped). I like it too, that being said in regards to this particular track…

… I doubt their use of Ellie Goulding’s and Imogen Heap’s vocals we’re licensed. a ballsy move for sure to use those samples (and probably more that i didn’t catch or don’t know), especially of such high profile and well known songs.

A lot of “furry” music falls into “gabber” “breakcore” “hyperpop” and “mashcore” at the same, and this is definitely a more hyperpop song, and well made hyperpop is just fun to listen to.

Absolutely weren’t licensed, in fact one of the other artists I listened to had to upload instrumental versions of his tracks to some services due to copyright. I find that in the more underground scenes people start to give less shits about copyright etc.

Even I probably have some devious sample choices…

Guns n roses…

Some songs are good.

Some songs…are just annoying because axl rose exaggerates his singing.

I can beat you at the cringe wars any day. I still unironically listen to Ellie Goulding’s first album

I literally only know Lights and I love that one. Is that on the first album?

Yes! The album Lights is so goddamn good, and normally I hate pop music

Speaking of cringe, this album rips even harder. Unfortunately there’s some recent bad / controversial shit going on with this band right now, but I don’t know if I can give up listening to it any time soon. Jesus Freak and Supernatual are probably in my top 50

bro… i fucking love this song. not kidding. i was a giant fucking DC Talk fan growing up.

i give zero fucks if it’s “cringe”, or that it’s christian, this song is fucking good and uplifts me when I’m feeling low.

i will out cringe you with some DCT:

and I can’t possibly post that without posting this directly after:

 Um so yeah… if you had put a camera on me at whatever this kid’s age is, I would have made the same exact video (would have hit the bars on the beat and the b-boy dances slightly better however)

Here’s one more cringe that I love showing people

:picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard: :picard:

But yeah In The Light is a fantastic track.

Here’s another “cringe” song of the same type, but I love it.

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned here, but I’m the son of a preacher man (my dad’s a Christian pastor). Explains a lot don’t it? He was quite protective/oppressive about us listening to “secular” music as children (I rebelled hard later), so all we were allowed to listen to was this stuff. Somehow I was able to find what I think are the gems of that genre, of which there are very few.

Jars of Clay is seriously one of the best, right up there with Third Day

This is the only part I’d have to disagree with! There are so many christian rock bangers out there for me to consider the idea that maybe, just maybe they’re onto something. The odds don’t lie

This… I can tolerate this. It’s technically trap but it’s more indie rock than trap tbh

Been on a Chicago kick off and on for a while
