To What Do You Owe Your Happiness Today?

Lol “eggs in a hole.” My grandpa used to make those all the time.

Yeah, man, that takes me back. I grew up “struggling white people poor” when I was young, but my parents grew up legit poor - like 10 kids Oklahoma dirt farmer poor, a level of getting by and making a life I only understand in theory. So they had all the life skills to get us through.

My mom understood basic nutrition/70s food pyramid shit and did what she could to keep us healthy. Lots of veggies from the community garden, whatever meat was on sale, stew and salad was common (which was always better than liver and onions). When left to his own devices, my dad would pull out all the stops and go full redneck:

  • boil or nuke a hotdog until the ends burst (this was mandatory for reasons I still don’t understand)
  • fry an egg flat
  • cover a piece of whitebread with yellow mustard
  • roll the egg around the hotdog, place in bread
  • 2x is lunch, enjoy!

I still make it from time to time for the nostalgia kick and it’s not terrible. But between eggs and hotdogs it’s not $0.25 anymore lol

I get you broski…
My “dad” doesn’t have a job, and the way I see it he’s just leeching off of my dear mother, so we’ve been through some shit like that. (Renting, debt everywhere… Not fun!) Lucky, my mum’s got a good stable job now… Eggs in a hole was somewhat common, but you wanna know what was (and still is) the real shit? Cracking eggs into a microwave container with baked beans and cooking them in the microwave… Beany eggs…
Sometimes when I’m alone I cook plain mince and rice, bit of soy sauce sometimes. I dunno man, sometimes basic food hits different.

That was passed down to you? I just summon mine from thin air like a fucking sorcerer. :high_voltage:

Eggs are so incredibly versatile with meals that it’s almost magical. I can probably think of like 50 totally different (usually-cheap) meals off the top of my head that I make with eggs on a regular basis.

I haven’t heard of eggs with beans, but somehow eggs and a can of sardines are amazing when fried together, too. Hell, even eggs and broccoli (if you don’t go too heavy on it) is another one.

Where’s that cooking thread when you need it?

Don’t forget about mince!

Don’t give us ideas, or this won’t exactly be a music forum anymore

I thought there used to be a food thread. Maybe in the old forum…

I’ve got everything I need for my old routine! Easier than last week, but ask me in five days lol. Forgot how good it makes you feel.

I created a seperate social media page…to post my bullshit…

Why…

So that i dont post the bullshit on idmf.

I really hope that the reduced forum activity is because of reddit…and life (being that the skrillex electronic music fad was over a decade ago)…and not because of my bullshit posts…

No way, man. The fact that you even post here at all keeps threads like these alive when all else is quiet.

I genuinely appreciate and value your contribution to the forum, if that means anything from one human to another. You keep the interesting threads alive when nobody else is there to do it.

I think the reduced activity is something that’s plaguing a lot of the best forums and communities right now. People either don’t have the time or energy to contribute, and even most social media pages are just bot activity anyway.

Anyway, that just makes it all the more interesting when you post stuff here. Even if you call it shotposting, it matters.

Yeah, I always read your posts if I see them @bfk

I think reduced activity in forums is to be expected in general. Original posters getting older, less time for posting and for the respective forum-related activities in general. I had like 1 hour music time this month… Also, people talking to AI instead of people online. And I don’t mean for getting information… And chaotic and economically unstable times additionally make people focus on the essentials…

Personally, I mostly just don’t have the time for music or writing a lot in forums these days. I still take the time to read posts here regularly, but when I think about answering, I hear a loud “PAPA!!!111” or I remember that I have to do something for work/family/life or whatever…

Exactly.

Plus: personal reasons.

I think I mentioned that somewhere already: both me & my wife lost our respective jobs in March due to layoffs because the orange shitstain that should die already created massive uncertainty in many industry sectors. Companies holding off on commissioned work/projects means investors freaking out means layoffs because god forbid one C-level person that has the combined salary of 300 employees is let go instead.

Looking for a job in 2025 is brutal. While we’re trying not to let this and other things get to us, it’s not always easy. I don’t have many “fun” or “positive” things to contribute these days, so I read posts, upvote them, but don’t write much.

Musically speaking: you’d think suddenly having a lot more time on your hands would be conducive to making music. Well, not really. I’ve been in a “what’s the point anyway” type of mood for a while. Maybe that’s low-key depression that has morphed into apathy.

See, told you, not exactly a ray of sunshine these days.

Keep it going, @bfk - I’m a broliever.

I feel you! I’m sure it will get better though. I went through a few rough years and felt close to giving up a few times, but sometimes it gets better and multiple chances open up when you least expect it.

Sending some positivity your way! :heart_hands:

3 years ago today, I married my wife which was the greatest life decision I have ever made. We actually met over our mutual love for DnB, and she told me a joke today that made me chortle:

Q) Why did the lion get lost?

A) Because the JUNGLE WAS MASSIF
