And now that I think about it, having SIX full analog filters you can dedicate to different samples would open up some interesting ideas too!
IDK what your budget is dude, but seriously look at the Super6. I think people kind of forget about it because it was UDOs first synth, but it can do 90% of what the Gemini can do. The voice and mod architectures are pretty much the same, the main difference is voice count and multi-timbrality. Not going to lie, I usually just use different synths when I want different sounds.
The Super8 also has the multi-timbrality of the Gemini without the second set of panel controls, and you can add a voice card to bring it up to the same voice count. I get the appeal of the Gemini, I do, but it IS overkill compared to the rest of their lineup.
I was watching the whole lineup again yesterday because they came out with a new synth. Super 6 and 8 are dope but for the price, I’d step up to gemini. I wouldn’t get a 6 or 8 with the prices… I’d go Moog at that point, love me some moog… more moog please, with a side of moog
My main synths are Moog and UDO, so I’m not going to disagree with you.
I only have the Mother 32 and DFAM but all Moog synths sing to me. My next synth is definitely the Subsequent 37 for sure. Next year it will be on full display in my setup.
Definitely a pedal I will be purchasing. This has overtaken the Zen delay imo, it seems almost like it’s own playable instrument, Erica Synths brings it as usual.
I’m looking into this little beast, so many functions for $250 dollars. I could tie this with my korg volca rack (volca nubass, volca fm, and volca modular, ran into the volca mix) and do out and about sessions. Parks, alleys, mountains, lakes.
Got round to putting this kit together this week. Neutral Labs Scrooge, desktop version. It’s heaps of fun to use, real little inspiration machine. The build wasn’t too hard, all the SMD parts come pre-soldered. I only had to take it apart again once to re-solder a funky LED ![]()
Niiiice! That thing sounds so cool. You going to make any videos with it? I remember when it first came out I was like wtf is that, than it grew on me. I’d have to revisit some of the videos but if I remember, its a pretty wonky drum machine, in a good way
Yeah it’s great. I’d say it’s more drum machine adjacent than an actual drum machine, but it’s super fun to jam on and the sequencing and a/b routing and modulation channels are top notch, on par with the elektron boxes. I’ll probably make a little video with it sometime soon. If I do I’ll share it here for sure
I had noted in the dating experiences thread (long story) that I was picking up an RME ADI 2 Pro FS interface for a variety of reasons.
It’s been my dream AD/DA converter for years and it has not disappointed. This thing sounds amazing, which I didn’t really expect because I’m upgrading from a separate headphone amp and dac that measure better (lower noisefloor/distortion) than this. But I guess measurements don’t tell the whole story because I swear the bass is easier to hear on this amp without changing the headphones.
The metering of all audio passing through has been a sleeper hit of a feature too. Very nice to listen to a reference and be able to always glance at a level/frequency plot of it, and then quickly compare to my mix/master. I actually already noticed that my masters are a lot hotter than most of my references, so I’m going to throw these through my analysis tools later and double check if I have more or less dynamic range or what else might be going on.
Got a couple more things for the project studio. A preamp, desktop swivel boom, and a rack that holds my keystep and pedals.
Bought a JV880 back in May. My middle daughter came out back in June and while she was here she wanted to record a demo of her singing for a job. Realized I don’t really have an outboard mic pre or compressor outside of the stuff built into my little Behringer Xenyx Q802USB mixer, so I nabbed an Art Dual MP and Behringer Composer (yes, I have plenty of VST’s for compression/limiting but I honestly didn’t think of them until after we finished recording for the night). None of these have been added to the signal chain or even powered up aside from the JV briefly. In fact, they’re all leaning against the stand with my vinyl and turntable along with an 8x8 MDI interface I picked up over the summer.
Dealing with some things, just quit drinking last week and trying to get back in shape so I can hopefully get back into the mental space to actually use the stuff I’ve bought in the last few years to make music instead of just looking at it every time I go into my bedroom.
Congrats man, we have a sobriety thread too, go and necro that thing and get us all pumped for your journey.
It took me years but I feel like I got off the GAS. Sure sometimes I still want some extra bits but since I got to know my Live II, then III very very well (BTW you can ask me anything on the Live III if you need, I know it inside out) I got to a point where I just finish music with what I have. I realised that having more options was not for me, I make music in very short bursts, so focus is essential.
Long story short, really knowing my tools made me better at music.
But also getting off the internet and talking to people, going to electronic open mic nights and producer meet ups, letting what I heard around me influence my music was the turning point for me.
Haha. I keep thinking I’m pretty well set but like, am I? Give me moooore!! I don’t think I will go crazy at this point, maybe a couple more things next year (Moog Sequential 37 and Erica Synths Echolocator) but Im at a point to limit myself. Good to still see you around, chopping it up
Been using a pair of QUAD Lite speakers for like a decade, on a gaming PC with the 1050ti, which was decent intially, but I upgraded my PC just over a year ago and now its insane, but now I need to up the actual sound capabilities, I recently got the scarlett 16i16 4th gen, and am about the get the KALI Audio IN-8 2nd Wave speakers on black friday…. My setup should be good for a decade lol…
