I picked up a radio station on one of my basses XD It was quiet, and to record it I used a compressor which also amplified the noise when using the makeup gain… but sometimes plugins are magic. I used RX8 spectral denoise set to learn and gave it 1.5s, SPL Iron compressor again, and then Bitwig’s EQ-5 and increased the output yet again…
Now I can record/sample a radio station. No idea how I’d use it, yet, maybe mangle it or just pull out words/phrases lol. But it’s amusing me so that’s all that matters. I’m sure with a little more work I could make the second one less muffled-sounding… it’s also a lot quieter than it is in Bitwig and I’m not sure why. I told it to use the Project Master
I love all that shortwave radio/number stations thing.
I have a RF Nomad ShortWave radio module in my eurorack, I have it permanently patched up to a Amsynths AM8060 Jupiter8 filter as it has a LP/HP/BP filter so it has plenty of scope for filtering out the various noise (however you do need a bit of noise present to give it some character) love when you get those signals that sift in and out that sound as if their going through some ring modulation, when you do find a mysterious station there’s something ghostly about it, perfect sample fodder I’ve used my findings in many a track.
I’m at work at the moment but will give your track a listen later when I get home.
it’s not even a track; it’s just a section of recorded radio as captured and after using some plugins to clean it up. Your post did remind me that I have an FM radio in my OP-1 so I can dink around with that to try and find the actual station.
that Whyp.it site is having issues. Or I am with it. I can’t log in anymore and get constant “Please check your network connection and try again” errors which ofc the owner on Discord says he is showing no errors, asked what browser I am using, etc. But I can’t log on anymore, and can’t even upload as a guest. The only thing on the site working for me atm is clicking on “roadmap” anything else gets that network error… though I can listen to other people’s stuff o.O
…and I just discovered if I open that link I posted above, I can get into my account fine, no errors, etc… o.O
According to wikipedia, the Microbrute has been in production 10 years now (which was what I thought). Kind of surprised they haven’t updated that one at all. Maybe because of the popularity of Microfreak?
Update on the monostation, we realised we can have osc 2 play paraphonically, so we can have a drone playing while using it to filter and add distortion to the external audio we’re currently running through it, and it adds some great tones and grit to the sound and sounds really fucken cool, and made the music we’re working on sound more like what we had in our head. It’s like a really weird way to use it but it’s so much fun
Is it still in production? Arturia’s website just says find a dealer vs buy from them like other models, and the price spike I saw seems to imply it went out of production. Though I’ve also seen them now down to $200ish used again. Sweetwater says it’s no longer available.
Maybe the MicroFreak is the next incarnation. I always had the impression the MicroBrute was pretty popular, it’s too bad they didn’t make a true followup.
I was reorganizing my closet (again…) and underneath some stuff was this old Onkyo tape deck I don’t remember buying. I know I had one a long time ago but thought I got rid of all that stuff. Maybe I bought another when they were cheap. No way I’d pay current prices for anything cassette. People are fucking stupid for driving prices like this.
That there is natural lofi you fucking SP-404 peasants (no actual offense intended to anyone that owns and/or uses an SP-404, 303, etc)
And currently that radio that @canecreek tipped me off on is in the background. Though I think the Baofeng next to it can actually do those bands, too XD Oh well, it was cheap and it’s got a 3.5mm out vs 2.5mm (why, Baofeng??).
Oh shit. Driven By Moss works on the MPC Live, Live II, MPC One, MPC X
Which probably means he can get it working with a Force if/once he gets one
My dream of using a DAW controller stand alone and at the DAW is so close to becoming a reality… (Force can save to als files, and now Bitwig can open, but not save, to them)
Edit Double shit, his video has a Force in it LOL Akai sent them to him so he could make it
Needs wifi or ethernet
Pfft, Q-Link knobs don’t work that ruins half of it lol. I can already use a touch screen with Bitwig o.O
Got the Matriarch in today, and this was my first patch. My brother was pleased, said it sounded like something that would be playing in one of the clubs in Mass Effect, which I’m cool with. Have a DAW session set up, making a track of this will be interesting since there’s an LFO into clock speed…
Would have put the main LFO to filter cutoff and delay feedback, but I ran out of VCAs…
And INB4 I tried to rotate the image better, but soundcloud really wanted to put it this way or completely upside down.
