The Hardware Megathread

There are a few Youtube comparison videos and they all sound different, which is expected with some closer than others but the OG 303 had tolerences of something like 10% so no two OG’s sound the same, anyway. How do you like the TB-03?

I mean…even if assumed low longevity I can’t imagine it wouldn’t last me 10 years just sitting in my studio. Electronics are just at that peak point. They have to plan to make stuff break so you buy another one now LOL

It’s cool, it’s a lot of fun. I’ve done a few tracks with it, you can get some really wicked bass out of it. Filter sounds great… I love it for squelchy 303 goodness.

It only does one thing but it does it so well.

Amazon has the grape ones for $118 atm :open_mouth: (albeit out of stock) with my Amazon card reward points I can get one for about $70 :joy:

and of course work caught up, distracted me, and now that’s gone. sighs

I don’t remember which one of you purple dicks were looking for a sample subcription service, but loopmasters has a 3 months for 3£ offer at the moment

Where did this come from o.O

Pretty sure it’s on youtube.

OK I kid, IDK. Maybe they were thinking it’d be good for when you have some volcas? The form factor is pretty killer compared to the Arturia stuff for me, because I already have more than enough keyboards.

In other news, my OP-1 has been on the charger for a week with no signs of life but that red light and a short hiss when plugged in. Oh well. I was hoping it’d at least still work plugged in.

That might have been me? I ended up signing up for Noiiz’s $5 a month plan is is way more than I need in a month anyway.

If anyone cares its 100mb of samples, one of their VST instruments (it seems to be a lot of either modeled or sample based acoustic instruments), and one synth preset pack per month. They have tons for Serum. I’d pay the $5 just for the samples

I saw where someone on reddit removed a swollen battery and their OP-1 worked without a battery. So I went to pull the battery out of mine to see, and it came right out. I don’t think I got that tiny connect seated lol, and it still doesn’t turn on anyway. Welp. Probably not going to bother with it anymore, now. F OP-1, you were some of my most productive years.

That’s too bad! You should see what it might be worth broken. I was surprised what I got for my broken Machinedrum.

Probably my best bet. I maaaaay contact one or two companies in the US, but if it won’t turn on period I don’t know if it’s worth the hassle. It was always a temperamental little diva throughout the whole active time I used it. Not the first time it wouldn’t power on, battery meter woes, having to repeatedly drain the battery and recharge it to get it to act right and last as long as advertised. TE even advertised a 2 year standby, half of that in the case and the thing seemed completely dead and eventually sat another few years in a closet. I’m definitely not spending $1400 on another one. $900 was enough.

Looking at eBay and iFixit, I could probably get $100 or so for the keyboard, $50 for the I/O board, $100+ for the board with the knobs… or maybe get lucky selling the whole thing for several hundred. Maybe someone else can manage to get it working even.

The OP-1 is cool, I had a rough time paying the new price for one. My buddy has one of the new batch and paid that money boy I’d want to be more excited than he seems for that money.

But yea, I’d try selling it, if you could get $200ish for it that’s a nice chunk of cash towards something nice.

I found on reddit that before all this covid stuff it took them a year to get their OP-1 repaired. The DSP board was $280 alone and then a keyboard replacement (battery swelled and damaged it). All told, $470.

There was a slightly larger box in a similar form factor as the OP-1, similar concept of synth engines, etc, but I can’t for the life of me remember the name. Not the Deluge or the Organelle. Maybe it never actually came out
