The Hardware Megathread

Meh, by the time I decided that Evolver was gone.
Will live with my regret.

The Evolver is so cool. If got one again I’d try to dig up a keyboard version probably. The matrix programming was not for me. But sound wise, what a great concept.

To be perfectly honest, I’ve had the mk2 for a year or so, I don’t use it all that much. It’s much easier to plug patch cables into other things and surprise myself with those results. Also the elektron didn’t come with a manual (other than a quick start) so I have to really be in the mood to sit down and read from the online manual, and then memorize functions/combinations of keys to hold to get things done… but yeah, that thing is definitely a beast, and I should spend more time on it. I’ve had to talk myself out of selling it a time or two, realizing that it’s my fault for not giving it the time to learn everything. I’ve also just been dealing with cable issues to get everything playing together and have just been too lazy to order them.

Tl;dr it’s really great, but complex to master imho

your tl;dr is like the perfect tag for most Elektron boxes (if you’ve not used one before). If you have an hour I bet this would sort you…Cuckcoo is a delightful weirdo and is a little ramble-y but his Elektron tutorials are the best.

I get it though. When I find the time for music I reach for the gear I know well usually.

Thanks man! I’ve seen some things from this guy but never looked at his elektron vids. Definitely going to give it a watch!

There’s this channel, not too popular called 16 steps, he has been super helpful for this unit, but only really messes with a handful of gear in general. Guess I should shout him eh

Access is busy with their Kemper line of amp modelers. I don’t believe we’ll see another synth from Access.

This is what I’ve read, that and the DSP used in the Virus is no longer made? So he’d have to completely redo something from scratch. The Octatrack uses a similar Motorola DSP though, too… but as I recall, it’s the only one left using it. The rest using something from TI now, iirc.

Ah, ok. Well good for them. I’m happy to know they are still in business doing something interesting.

Is that perhaps why there is a TI version of one of the synths?

It looks really cool, but between my little Volca Drum, MFB 522, MPC, and the coming S2400 I am drum machined out I think XD. And my on again, off again affair with a hot little Maschine Mikro mk3. Don’t tell my MPC… :eyes:

lol… no :stuck_out_tongue:

Fair! I really didn’t know lol and obviously couldn’t be bothered to google it

I can see it though, I wasn’t sure if you were just being a smart ass or not  I also wasn’t clear, it was Elektron going to TI chips like in the Digitakt. On the Virus, TI is just an acronym and those still have the Motorola DSPs that are end of life.

I kinda want a purple Behringer TD-3 :eyes:

I’m eyeing a Maschine MK III too, but desk space is a premium…

I’m in such a weird spot with Maschine. I like the software better, but hardware/stand-alone I like the MPC better :woman_facepalming:t2: I wanted a MPC Studio Black for portability/laptop use but since being discontinued the prices are just stupid, so I went with a Maschine Mikro mk3 and it’s been a lot of fun. Maschine+ isn’t really even a blip on the radar at this point, though if a mk3 comes up for the right price I might oblige it just to try the full experience so I can compare the two myself vs what a potentially already biased YouTuber might think.

As much as i like things stand alone, i have to be honest with myself. My MPC spends most of its time right next to my computer anyway, which is always on, and I basically play anything through my soundcard and the monitors hooked up to it.

This plus the fact that the chances of playing live were low before Covid, imagine now, made me realize that for me standalone is more about all-in-one without having to change flow than connectivity.

To be honest it also has to do with me being more productive when I use less stuff, on the Force I struggled to find my workflow among all the possibilities and at the moment, I struggle to include the Cycles in my setup as it has a completely different approach than the Force, so the mental switch required gets in the way. I prepare stuff on the Cycles, sample it, switch it off.

Ditto! Everywhere Ive found them in stock they are almost twice as expensive as the other common colors :frowning:

zZounds is saying “Get it by Tuesday, February 16th” :joy:

Oh well. My MiniBrute 2S does a fine 303 impression

Hmm. I decided to put my OP-1 back together and it turns out I had all the parts after-all minus a single screw. And a red led comes on when plugged in, a light that would be hidden with the keybed in place. Makes me think it’s an indicator of something bad XD The speaker makes a tiny little sound when plugging it in.
