I’m Robin, I have been making electronic music for about a year (although I’ve always enjoyed it, and always played instruments).
I really love making weird noises, and would really like to listen to other people’s weird noises and talk about how we make our weird noises.
I don’t know exactly how I’d categorise the music I’ve made so far, but some of my favourite artists include:
Ruby My Dear
Björk
Aphex twin of course
Igorrr
The Knife, and Fever Ray
Vivaldi, and other such makers of classical bangers
Massive Attack
Portishead
I use reaper, a midi keyboard and various soft synths, etc. I like chopping breaks, mangling them beyond recognition, then carefully arranging them. It’s meditative, like snipping magazines up to make a collage. Always hoping to prioritise a feeling or vibe first, and then worry about the rest later.
Mixing is really hard. Coming up with a cool name for my music project is also really hard.
I’m really looking forward to seeing / hearing what everyone here gets up to!
Howdy, and welcome. We’ve always got great talk about sound design going on around these parts, so I hope to see you around! Also, based on your favorite artists, I can’t wait to check out your work once you’re able to post it
I think most of us started there, so you’re in great company! And, if you want to dig a little deeper, there’s some great ways to transition from there into the deep, cold depths of it all
(Actually it’s pretty easy once you get there, so have no fear!)
Poke around the forum, there are plenty of links with all kinds of music you can listen to, all kinds of tech threads (mixing, mastering, you name it), philosophical musings, photos of @Vlantis doing things and @bfk’s strange brain activity.
That’s awesome, I love talking about the philosophical side of what it means to create as well as the technical side. Especially when it comes to the idea of absurdism in art and music!
Oh yeahhh! Have you heard that E.P they did together a while ago, called Maigre (the one with the greyhound on the cover) - the track ‘Cuisse’ melted my actual face off
Omg as if you have that on vinyl, nice!! When I can, I will share my track ‘get that snake out of the piano’, parts of which are heavily inspired by this e.p (although I am a noob of course).
Welcome. Enjoy the forum. When you are able to feel free to frequent share your music in the listening booth.
Also i dont speak for the netlabel but i look forward to hearing your tracks on some netlabel releases…
Also any questions the studio section is your best bet…and occasionally we have community projects…the beat battles used to be a thing but that its no longer active…maybe itll be revived in the near future.
Also if anyone feels up to it…i created a qawm in the community projects section…it ll either be for july or august…idk we will see depending upon how many wanna do the qawm thingy.
