I appreciate the shoutout, but no worries. I have had time to download/install the plugins, but haven’t had a chance to start using them yet as I’ve been busy with mastering work. Anyone have a chance to start using them yet? Do they work well?
Their reverb(Spacer) has 3 reverbs , 2 delays and 1 utility/stereo control section. All sections has random button and some knobs (5-6 knobs) to adjust. In general i like it. Plugin adds depth and rythm to tracks.
Told ya! Just sayin’
tl:dr izotope neutron elements
So a few little birdies told me about the Access Virus TI firmware being available somewhere online along with someone else making Wrapper/GUI… and hoooollllyyyyy jeesh is that shit fun.
Always wanted a Virus TI… welp I got one(kinda) now heh and MAN is that a fun peace of kit.
I’m probably late to the party, but apparently all of the Kilohearts RE stuff is free. Technically it doesn’t count for anyone who didn’t get the free promo a while back for Reason lite, but if you did, you can basically have all of the Phase Plant FX wherever you want.
I don’t think they have full internal CV, but you can modulate from your daw
I don’t come to this category often, and this request might be a bit awkward for IDMfers
I’m looking for free plugins for Orchestral and Movie Trailer type sounds. Something like Native Instruments and Kontakt but free.
I use Reaper
Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
Also, I’m a bit confused on how it all works… (ouch!)
Maybe I really mean sample packs, but I don’t think so. I want instruments that I can play with my midi keyboard. I have one for drums and a synth I like. I also use the stuff that comes with Garage band for iPad but I want to work directly in Reaper.
Hope this all makes sense…

I use this for all my orchestral sounds. It’s not going to go straight to cinematic movie sounds, you’d need other libraries for that. But as a self-contained starter orchestra, I recommend this one highly. There are other good free ones out there, but I can only personally speak to this one.
that’s what she said
IIRC (take this with a grain of salt, I don’t sample much) there are free versions of Kontakt and Falcon (possibly also Halion, too) that act as ‘players’ which allow you to use libraries. So even if you don’t own the synth, you can find free or cheap libraries all around the internet and load them up.
(The same goes for Reason packs and things like that if you own even the Lite plugin – there are likely shitloads of romplers to be had on there, some of them even being free)
UVI certainly has one, but you’d have to verify the others in case I’m full of shit. Considering the sheer amount of free Kontakt libraries I’ve seen scattered across the internet though, it almost wouldn’t make sense otherwise. I’m not sure if anyone actually still uses Halion, so that one’s a bigger mystery
but…
Definitely don’t rule out sampling. You can layer and create great stuff even from samples around the internet (I know some dipshit who gives some around here for free quite a lot) using layers, key zones, velocity zones, and all of the other synthesis tricks you may or may not already know about. If you really want something unique, you can just spend a little time (even if you’re using someone else’s samples) and create instruments that are very much yours, even if you didn’t fully synthesize them from scratch.
In the words of the great Fred Durst, “Just think about it!”
Take this
No , take this
Hence! why I stick to my favorite categories!
Thank you!!! @White_Noise
This what I was looking for. Something that works as a VSTi within Reaper.
I spent half the day loading Sonuscore and Kontakt only to have it crash with a notice saying “send the crash log to Technical Support.” Spent another couple hours finding a chat bot that enetually allowed me to open a ticket. A notice said “you will see an email in the next 2-3 minutes.” I’s been 2 hours, no email… DAMN!!!
Downloading Spitfire and the BBC library took about 20 minutes and I’m happy with the result.
Very much appreciate your help!
Appreciate the recommendation, @st3aLth but if you see my reply to @White_Noise you will see I tried Kontakt but ended up crashing and burning in a pit of fire!
Hope to get it working eventually!
Much appreciated @KvlT ! Struggling with getting Kontakt player to work… spent most of the day with no luck.
I need a cocktail
I dislike kontakt. I bought Cycles a while ago. A $250 granular engine only to find out that it needed kontakt to run. That annoyed the hell outta me. I can understand little shitty diy plugins needing 3rd party help, but not when you pay that much money for it.
I couldn’t remember the name, but SAM is the other really good free one. Never used Kontakt so I couldn’t help you install it, but I have heard SAM is as good as many paid libraries today. Spitfire is really good for like 5-10 years ago, but there is room for improvement and limitations you can run into if you were trying to do a full score with nothing but that one plugin.
The way I use it though is more like a super sampler. If I need a horn sound, I grab that one first and then if I want more character I either add effects or go for one of my vintage sampler emulations. Same for the various strings, etc. It’s great for adding natural layers to electronic compositions, or for basic compositions with just one part from each instrument. Where it starts to fall flat is you can’t say “I want the strings to have a slower attack first and then move smoothly to a faster attack over the next 4 bars”. There just isn’t enough samples for that, and the different attacks are discreet settings of long, short, or plucked.
All that said, I find it is good enough for 95% of what I do and I have been using it for 3-4 years now.
Ouch!
