General breakcore advice
Structure the drums like both a lead guitar and rhythm guitar in a rock song…
Like how in a song the lead will play intro, bridge 1, verse 1, chorus 1, bridge 2, verse 2, chorus 2, bridge 3, solo, verse 3, chorus 3, bridge 4, outro…
And the rhythym guitar just plays the verse and chorus parts…
So like have a drum element keep the rhythym like a kick snare accent, or a hat pattern…
And have the other drum elements act as a lead.
Polyrhythyms are really hard to compose digitally and its hard to make them sound good…
If you can pull it off go for it…
but i usually stick to cross rhythyms like 3/4 against 4/4 and each pattern/bar has some variance…and you can also layer the different patterns in different ways to create variance but i recommend accenting the main beat to make it easier to follow
Also high tempos make it easier for microediting…but when using high tempos compose the other elements as if it was in half time…
You can also play around with time division or ticks per beat to get funky grooves…in renoise the sample offset and tempo modulation shifting come in handy for the funk and humanization…
It takes a while to be able to make the groove sound humanized without it sounding like its out of time.
Thats the manual method…but
Theres other things you can do to create different patterns with modular environments like jeksola buzz or other stuff…but you gotta put in the time and experiment a lot…and i mean a lot to come up with your own techniques …thatll make others want to know how you did that…
