And ya, it’s just the Phrygian mode. Root, Half step up, minor third up, half step up, half step down. I have a specific way of writing melodies in key and that’s what a lot of those games did. Plus I love to use synths. I don’t take any offense to it. It’s what I enjoy!

I think i get what you’re saying. basically, try less bit crushing and clean up the mix in general, but i could go in a more breakbeat direction from what i’ve shown.
that sounds solid. its kind of minimalistic compared to other stuff i’ve done and i wanted a bit more groove in the bass synth. the mix is a bit wack in my struggle to keep the bass synth dominant, so i see the issues there.
You’d be surprised about what can work well in certain contexts. You don’t always want a simple sine as your sub, and certain degrees of grit can layer up a sound to make it really fat.
