Bassline competition challenge

I like it but this could be developed more. This has potential to be an epic banger.

Very smooth…i wasnt expecting such. I expected a more aggresive track.

Listened on my phone…the bass stab could be modified by varying the envelope curves that might make it more funky…

Its well composed the sounds are all complementary and the mix is good…

Its not the genre id normally listen to…

I have some ideas maybe add a smooth detuned sub bass…more specifically lowpass filter a reese bass and filter out all the higher harmonics.

idk if it might work…my ideas would greatly modify what you made…

Anyways good job.

Try dropbox…the google drive doesnt work for me.

forgot to unrestrict the access, it should work now

I might be stretching the definition of ‘bass’ on this one, but these are kind of fun to make

This is the type of music that my parents go “what the fuck” to, and i love it
I was pretty confident in my own submission, but you deserve the crown and cape man, this is so sick

Hello Everyone! My name is Pat and this is my first post on this forum. I’ve been looking for a place to meet and talk with other like minded individuals. Super stoked to be here!

I just so happened to stumble upon this forum at the most opportune time and I would love to join this challenge! I don’t believe I’m able to post links or embed my SoundCloud because I’ve only been active for an hour or so. I also can’t upload a wav file. Any suggestions on how I can enter?

Thank you!

@PBish very cool dude! I can tell you have real songwriting chops with like full A and B sections and bridges and stuff. The structure on these is great!

IDK how to describe this, but they feel really… thematic? That’s not a good or bad thing, just I’d expect something like this to be in a video game or a movie instead of a bass soundtrack - though I think they hold their own here too.

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words!

I get that a lot to be honest. I grew up a gamer, so maybe I take some influence from them. I was a bit worried that it may not have been a proper submission, I apologize if it wasn’t! I’m not the best with all the sub genres and the fat bass in Quick Sand seemed proper although it’s parallel to a flute :joy:. Sneaky Sneaky is really abstract bass concept. I wouldn’t be mad if my music was in a movie or video game one day! I appreciate the feedback!

I used to get the videogame comment a lot too (and I got into electronic music from the older sonic games).

The thing that jumped out at me was “quick sand” sounds totally like desert level music for every 90s platformer. Once I heard that, I couldn’t unhear it and it made me look at “sneaky sneaky” through the same lens for better or worse. I’m sure that will wear off a bit as I get to hear more of your stuff.

whoa everything in this thread is pretty cool and way different then what i’m used to hearing here.

i was confused and though this was a challenge to make just basslines, but y’all made straight up tracks.

I haven’t had time to contribute to this but as long as the thread continues it’s filed under my “i’ll get to it eventually” low priority list. so yeah, eventually.

yeah @White_Noise is right, the rhythm is catchy af. probably going to be stuck in my head for awhile. can you share the midi file “sneaky sneaky”? I’d love to put a twist on that. eventually. if you wanna gate keep it no problem i guess i’ll just take five minutes and copy it myself. eventually. like the sneaky sneaky basstard i am.

did you think of anything about it
i can tell people have listened to it but nobody has told me anything about it

Its very abstract, and could be developed further. You can go in many directions in developing this…you can make it industrial or idm broken beat or industrial dubstep.

You could resample some elements and push the sound design a bit further.

You could also frequency band split the bass and have different fx treatments on the frequency bands and the glue it all together with compression into a main bus mixer channel.

You could resample it through a granular synth and combine the original and the resampled version to create another sound.

You can even do all the above.

I would suggest you develop it further in the vein of industrial dubstep. But use less bit crushing and clean up the mix…

When mixing with distortion im still learning how to keep it clean myself. But from my experience and from others input…you can use an several instances of eq to create several notch filters and other filters to filter out the frequencies that clash with the other elements.

Also never distort the sub bass frequencies…most gritty basslines usually distort the mid and or high frequencies.

Also when resampling the bass might want to experiment with using a scouch of vocoder or maybe a touch of spectral morphing.

I hope this helps in a technical sense…i cant be more specific in other areas because than i would be imposing my creative bias onto you…and imposing creative bias doesnt help people grow musically as artists.
