Your Favorite Tracks from the label

Hey all, pretty straight-forward question here but I wanted to know what some of your favorite tracks are that have been released on the label over the years.

Old, new, whatever, doesn’t really matter, just throw me some of your favorites
If you can include what release it was on that would be helpful so I don’t have to hunt too much.

Oh man, my list is about 70 tracks long, is divided into five volumes and has the title “IDMf Retrospective”.

I know that doesn’t help you now, but it’s kind of a surprise. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

RE-RE-WIND
WHEN THE CROWD SAY BO SELECTA

Wheel It Up: History of the Rewind | by Laurent Fintoni | Cuepoint | Medium

This will be on repeat today, and not that it matters but I rarely hit rewind on anything unless it’s an absolute NoJ (nugget of joy). Do more like this! The whole album is enticing but this track… this fuckin track. Damn!

I still say that 3 of the best tracks the label ever put out were back to back on IDMf049 - the one synth album.

You roll in with Postpone - Transmit 816, which is a fine song in it’s own right (though with my early mastering and that song I hope you have a good sub), and sets up a sparser atmosphere with this darkness underpinning it all. Then you swing in with DJ Oxygen - Positive Energy. This is just one of the most beautiful melancholy tracks out there, but still very much IDM. If I feel like listening to track from the back catalog this is one of the ones I go back to. Then you finish it off with Triangulation - Maurriice, which is a pretty phat beat with a ton of space - if I have a complaint here, its that this one takes a bit to get going, but I will happily sit through it. Then you get to the last minute and go WTF. It’s kind of a ending of Random Access Memories vibes.

There’s also Vlantis’ album IDMf 055, all of which is good, but Automatic Man is the standout track. Just ask Metaside, he remixed it recently. That one stuck in all our heads I think.

On IDMf 062, Dr Itchers - Dwayne Barton is a song that went through hell to get there, but I think that song is better for it. For me, that is the highlight off the album. It’s got really pretty sounds in it, but it has crazy glitched beats on top of that in a way that I don’t hear often. That’s a special song and they just don’t make em like that.

On IDMf 064, there’s Geelist - MA. That is a pretty track that isn’t super IDM, but it convinced me to start going after DNB. This is always going to be a special track to me (enough that I remixed it like a year later).

I could list more, just pick any track of IDMf 050, that album is basically a who’s who of the IDMforums up to that point. Seriously, the only thing that lets that album down is it’s the third thing I ever mastered, and it shows. I’ve remastered it twice for myself, but I can never atone for that sin.

This is a great list. I especially like @dj0xygen’s Positive Energy.

You’ve inspired me to name some now. I won’t name any from the already released retrospectives as I feel like they’re a given.

@RFJ - Contemplation (from IDMf043 of Story Book and Sound). His whole EP is fucking awesome, but I’m particularly fond of this track. It says a lot.

Morpion - Peaked (from IDMf035 This is Good Tea). Morpion has such an immense range in his tracks. He does a lot of DNB now but his older IDMf stuff really had a lot of congruencies within the tracks. Dreamy like nature.

Bloshevik Rave Party - Edit (Padlock remix) (from IDMf029 Barely Legal) - This track is just mental. Venitian Snares, Igorr and some Flashbulb, eat your heart out.

Silent Strangers - Stae Cis (from IDMf013 Anagram1: Dither) - Autechre vibes

Ibunshi - Sipher (from IDMf003 Mind Tree) Does a lot with a little.

Carl Sagans Ghost - Especially for them (Part 1) (from IDMf010 Between the Silence and the Story) A great abmient track akin to Brian Eno’s work. I’d love to hear the part 2 to this. It was never released on this label.

Halogen - Length & Brecht (Synaecide Remix) (from IDMf004) - Original track is beautiful, but Syn’s remix is such a musical feat of beauty in itself.

AEtheros x city at worlds end - Xeno Lab 2122 (from IDMf056) - Such an awesome collab. Wish we would get @Erysys back! @nose when you gunna sub a new track

Phobik - Pressure Switch (from IDMf009 Minimal/DeepHouse comp and IDMf068 Retro Vol 2. for remastered version) Alright I said I wouldn’t name any of these but tbh I don’t listen to 4-to-the-floor music in general, but this track fucking slaps.

I feel like this short list covers a lot of ground in terms of how much range the label has just within the IDM realm.

There are honestly sooooo many off the hook tracks in the IDMf discog. I have been through it all from start to finish a few times now and it’s worth it. Look, there are some not so great tracks too, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows let’s be fuckin honest here, but if you’re looking for new IDM that you haven’t heard before I can’t recommend this catalog enough.

Man I really need to! Been wanting to do some more city stuff for a while. Maybe that’s in the cards with the fall weather.

Wish aetheros was around too, dudes got great talent. Iirc @Guy_Wachtel is his irl buddy, maybe he can convince him lol

I’ve been trying to off and on, I want him to come back without having to point a gun to his head, haha.

I happen to know that he’s got a killer single that he’s sitting on, maybe I can convince him to submit it for the open genre comp. He did release an EP the start of this year. I just posted that in the Members releases section in his stead.
