Yo so ive been seeing digital id becoming a thing

Yeah so countries have been pushing for digital id…and linking it to the right to work and other stuff…

But in my opinion i see potential abuses of it meaning it makes people more vulnerable to scammers, identity theft, and even discrimination and oppression…

Flip side i mean with ai and bots becoming more of a thing nowadays and people trolling and doing devious shit on the internet…it could keep that sort of behavior in check.

So any thoughts

In the UK I have a passport, driving licence and a National Insurance number for taxation/employment purposes. Why do I need a digital ID as well? The Conservatives proposed this idea back in 2005 and it sank like a turd in helium smothered in apathy. I’m sure the hackers of the world will be delighted to steal our personal data from another shoddy, insecure government IT system. We’re told the ID will be free but It’ll cost the UK tax payer billions in IT costs and project overruns. In this country we have a lousy track record of delivering any big project on time or in budget.

If this ever comes to fruition in the UK then I will gnaw off my mod wiggling hand in public.

It’ll never happen.

Ive also seen videos of people getting arrested in the uk over social media posts.

It’s completely disgusting - it’s an invasion of privacy and a ploy to control.

This isn’t a government effort to increase security and stop children being exposed to inappropriate content, because they will manage to find a way to get past it anyway. The governments want to digitize identification, money, and some other key human rights because it gives them a lot more power over what they can do. If you do something in the digitized system, the government can simply identify you and choose to cut off your privileges, which just isn’t right.

The laws in Australia won’t affect me, thankfully, but I really don’t like where this is going, and the process for getting normal paper identification is extremely convoluted - so it’s not just a trial, it’s a forced choice. After what happened with the government blackmailing most people into taking experimental Covid vaccines to keep their jobs, I don’t think I can trust politicians anymore.

Physical media has become pretty enticing, to tell you the truth. I’ve been having a blast with thrift store books and board games, and I’m not opposed to beginning to scope out old DVDs and music in preparation for things going down the tubes. Or, more so than they already have.

Nothing lasts forever, but it’s nice to have a few things that can’t get rewritten, censored, or erased just because someone’s digital license ran out or someone doesn’t want it to exist. I think these issues will become more important to us humans down the road than we know right now, regardless of what the current landscape looks like otherwise (this can and does affect every political position, so it’s not limited to any certain party or individual). DRM itself is sometimes enough for me to just want to go analog, but it’s also a blast to explore the past through a new lens. Especially when everyone’s getting rid of their shit at alarming rates; I see brand new stock at all of my favorite spots every time I go.

If there was a shitload of amazing music, movies or even games being released right now, I’d probably be at a loss. Good news for me, I’m old, and I think it’s all a bunch of recycled garbage. AI just put the final turd onto the pile; it was already going in a shitty direction for years, but we’ve finally hit rock bottom. I haven’t bought into anything modern in probably decades, aside from a handful of albums that I could very certainly live without.

If anyone really wants this shit to stick, they better sell it with something good.

They be using this digital ID thing as a disguise for the already implemented social credit system.

Tbh…I’m ain’t scared….because part of being an adult is accepting responsibility for your own actions and facing the consequences…it looks like that some people that complain about this want to be dicks to others with impunity…

Flip side.

Favoritism and lack of fairness of enforcement…like person a can take a shit in a urinal because of equity and social injustice while person b gets punished for being a good Samaritan…

Blah

Them grammatical errors be intentional.

I doubt it will keep trolls etc in check, as the people who do the things they are projecting aren’t caring of consequence, or have ways around them. Also this makes it more of a police state as this will only be in act for the British people or people staying in the UK, and won’t police against european influence, russian influence or potentially dangerous groups. Added ontop of this this lacks benefit for the general population as the use case already exists, with national insurance numbers…. If they were to lay down what they truly were intending with this I would consider the idea but until then it doesn’t seem as honest as they are making it out to be.
