What music are you NOT listening to

That’s surprisingly normal, imo. This is the reaction you’re supposed to have, if any; some of us are just a little insane

I kind of just find most things generalised as pop music, are typically crap to me… I try to give artists a chance… I get the idea of some of them but they aren’t my taste or style.

ummmmmm… dafuq? Invasion of Privacy is banger after banger after banger, Brokowski. plus… she thicc.

i really liked this album when it came out. this beat is super dope, “simple” as it is. Takeoff’s bars at about 2:30 are tight.

I like some of Migos’ stuff. Weren’t Future and Cardi married or are they currently? no idea lol. I watched Future’s fashion competition show with my wife for a season, that’s how I even know who he is. dude seems pretty fuckin smart. she’s pretty damn sharp too.

i don’t really follow the celebrity politics/bullshit, and being divorced from it completely allows me to just enjoy the music for what it is. a good track is a good track is a good track. i don’t necessarily reject something just because it’s pop. in fact i’m fascinated by pop because of how many people are involved on one project to make it happen. there’s hundreds of people’s efforts that go into putting a release like that%$4EN?536333763:DF#Y%H#535hh3rg3GEDFV

Not listening to any of the atonal crap you occasionally see by avant-garde composers

That and “Musique Contemporaine” which is painfully dreadful. It seems like the goal of that type of music is to make sure you avoid any sense of melody in your composition at all times, with notes that constantly clash, and looking deadly serious while you play it. In essence, it’s “music” that a 3 year old could make and it’s perfect for über-wealthy self-important old wankers & wannabes perusing Art Nouveau at galleries.

Certain bass music…cause it sounds like fart pooping in a porter potty synced to a beat…

Which is some bad complextro/dubstep.

And some breakcore thats just 400bpm distortion and an amen break.

And elevator idm music

I’ve never heard of this before, but thank you for the rabbit hole I’m about to go down!

I wonder if it’s sort of like jazz, avant-garde death metal or something like that; on first listen, it’s always just a barrage of strange notes that you’ve never heard together, but at some point you get a little better at discerning between them and at least getting those same feelings of tension and release that you’d get from more traditional genres.

Or, maybe this is closer to musique concrete - genius in theory; hard on the ears forever.

Musique Concrète is part of it.

Here are some composers to look into, if you really must

Pierre Boulez
Philip Glass
Pierre Henry
John Cage

Here’s a website about as welcoming visually as the music it serves. Composer names & links at the bottom:

One with a small chronology:

Note that not everything in this genre is godawful. But yeah, it can be very painful to listen to.

I was listening to the radio today and I heard a song that was apparently Chappell Roan. It was the most derivative, boring thing ever. I guess I figured because she’s got such an out there persona it would be at least interesting but I guess that pop has never really evolved since the 80s.

As I said at one point, a lot of modern dubstep is just weird messy stuff with no actual “feel”

That said, a point has been reached where the bassline quality is BIG. So go back and brostep becomes cringe, go forward and brostep becomes repetitive… Take your pick

That, my friend, is all of those genre snobs trying to make a point of “this isn’t akshually breakcore” by not being able to properly sequence a break.
