What are you listening to?

Wonder where some samples come from - the “cinematic” ones. They feel familiar. Good stuff - slick!

Refreshing to see a woman guitarist in this band (not just the mandatory hot female singer).

Just skimming through right now but I see it’s on Bandcamp so I might grab this one. Sounds lovely and soothing

And it’s a Los Angeles label - never heard of this one before… mmm

Was browsing my collection and found this gem.

Found it today. I died dancing.

In addition to the other tracks in the DnB thread I posted, I have a bunch of other miscellaneous, interesting tracks from artists I’ve found.

There’s quite a range of genres here…

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - "Lead Squid"
These guys are an incredible electronic/psychedelic/dark jazz group. Absolutely beautiful music.

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - "Mists of Krakatoa"
This might not be for everyone, but this unusual ghostly operatic style is so deeply atmospheric it verges on euphoria.

Shpongle - “Dr. Vinkelstein Says” - This is such an epic and fun dub/jazz/psychedelic/liquorice allsorts track. Once again Simon Posford and Raja Ram smash through yet another style and genre.

Flanger - "Short note with a few"
Basically glitch jazz, it’s really cool.

Floex - “Inauguration of Nobody”, from the album "A Portrait of John Doe"
It’s an incredible mix of electronic music with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra. I honestly recommend checking out the whole album, it’s incredible.

Floex - “Wednesday (Is the new Friday)”, same album as above

Floex - “Resurgence”, same album

Lapa - “Back to Africa” - expect excellent drumming and lovely floaty sounds

Lapa - "Talk to the Bass"

Globular - "This strange attractor"
Excellent psychedelic artist.

Globular - "Due to special circumstances"

Amon Tobin and Figueroa - "Weather Girl"
An unusual style with epic and atmospheric vocal harmony.

Edit: I just have to preface this with the following: if there ever was an archetypal expression of Intelligent Dance Music, DjRUM’s music is up there with the best of them.

I’ve got a feeling this guy is going to be a strong influence on my music going forward.

So please: if anybody knows of other artists like this guy with this level of attention to detail, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

Got to add one more from DjRUM to my above list…

Fucking incredible harmony and atmosphere.

And another… entirely different yet still entirely epic.

Eidt: My god, and another! This guy is amazing, such perfection and attention to detail, such emotion captured in every sound and every interaction between them.

Yep, they rule. I have all their albums (mostly on vinyl, woo-hoo!) as well as The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation and more recent offshoots like The Thing with 5 Eyes and Mansur.

Love Doom Jazz/Dark Jazz. If you don’t know them, check anything by Bohren & Der Club of Gore.

Also comes to mind: Detour Doom Project, the Signora Ward label, etc. etc. My personal fave: Dale Cooper Quartet & the Dictaphones (and the Pan & Me offshoot). Absolutely fantastic stuff!

I also have Flex’s soundtrack for Machinarium. Need to finish the game someday, it’s adorable

@morphic - That’s great! I’m not a vinyl guy, but I can appreciate the direct tactility of the experience. I enjoyed playing with my parent’s vinyl collection.

Thank you for the recommendations! I’ll listen through their stuff.

I thought I’d post some more incredible oddities in my playlists.

Stimpy Lockjaw - “Asteroids” (Dark Jazz Metal, so cool)
This is a fucking incredible piece of music. The time signatures, the guitar in the second half especially, all epic and intricately interwoven.

Trent Reznor & Karen O - "Immigrant Song"
A really cool interpretation of the Led Zeppelin track.

Yello - "To The Sea"
This is a really cool electronic track, excellent vocals - a classic.

The guys are a funny pair, just Google pictures of them. They went from making a cheesy style of music I’m not keen on, to smashing out a psytrance album, and doing it really well. This song is actually not psytrance, unlike most of the rest of the album, but it is my favourite track.

DjRUM - "Dam"
Got to slip another DjRUM track in here, so good.

The Claypool Lennon Delirium - "Amethyst Realm"
Exactly what the artist name implies: Les Claypool and one of John Lennon’s sons, specifically, Sean Lennon. Excellent stuff.

The Claypool Lennon Delirium - "Blood and Rockets"

Squarepusher - “Baltang Arg”

This guy is relentlessly technical, his music is incredibly complex. He’s written custom music software, he wrote some software to be able to trigger and modulate high-hat patterns by playing the bass. He’s also a bass virtuoso.

(This track is literally not on YouTube. Literally only a live version shows up for this one for some reason. I saw “Baltang Ort”, but that’s a different track. It’s on Spotify, though.)

Watching Invincible and this turned up during it so i paused it to go listen again properly

Hi, I am new here. I like listening Daft Punk.

Omg this song.

@morphic - Been listening through your suggestions.

I really like the blissfully bleak atmosphere of Detour Doom Project.

And man, “Son Mansarde Roselin” by Dale Cooper Qauarter & … is ghostly. Those washed out eastern scales resonating in the background are divine.

No so keen on Bohren & Der Club of Gore.

Man you’ve given me many hours of new music to explore.

Thank you.

Glad you like those!

Bohren: try “Sunset Mission” - this one may change your mind, it’s so great.

18 years old now, so simple yet does the trick on the dancefloor.
