I was hoping this was going to be about the crusty side of vaporwave / recycled plunderphonics-type shit. I canāt really tell what separates this ^ type of synthwave from regular pop so much aside from the drums, but Iām certainly willing to find out ![]()
Someone else posted this elsewhere, but I think itās the only example of this kind of pop / synthwave that I actually dig when Iām in that mood:
Dude used to post āhereā (old here, very briefly, and probably just spammed his music a few times) back when he was making chiptune. I donāt remember if his chiptune project was any good, but this one seems to have taken off. Pretty cool.
Iāve always prefered the good stuff:
Although I now like Chvrches? I live in a cave lol
I kind of want to combine this style with idm breakcore now lol.
Chvrches is great. They are great performers and really friendly people. I drank a bottle of scotch with them in Oakland after a show, back when Scotland was voting on whether or not to separate from the UK. It was a whole thing. love their music. Their cover of Kendrick Lamarās song āLove.ā is the song my wife and i danced to at our wedding
Someone tell me the correct genre.
Please thank you
Maybe just pop / synthwave? Thatās not derogatory, either - pop has many faces.
Vaporwave is also pretty vast, but mostly it stemmed from recycling muzak, old MIDI files and weird assets from unauthorized sources in order to kind of parody the aforementioned. Of course, this evolves over time and the meaning changes, but itās closely related to plunderphonics and actually ripping artists off in a sarcastic sort of fashion. You could think of this as elevator music for people who are aware of the inside joke, more or less.
Modern ānew-waveā / synthwave stuff is a serious cut above that, on purpose, because theyāre usually making their own music and not being hilarious or smarmy about it.
Anyone remember chillwave? Now that shit was cool, for the 5 minutes it lasted for
my friend was roommates with this dude, lol.
Turns out I donāt really like Chvrches. Itās sort of in-one-ear-out-the-other forgettable pop, although I like some of the music (did not like the newest album at all). Iāll prune my ipod and keep some songs of theirs.
This is a great chillsynth radio channel. I listen to this when I work on collages, and have discovered some great artists through it. This is the stuff Iāve been listening to most while driving the past few years.
