Sounds Like. I like

Hi good people in IDM land.

I make music I like to listen to, or what’s the point? If other people also like it then that’s a big bonus. It intrigues me when people make comments like “This track sounds like [A] or [B],” and I’ve never come across their work before. When I find the artists in question and I like their output too, it give me a lot of pleasure having found something new and exciting to get into. This has been an unexpected benefit of joining this forum - it has widened my musical appreciation horizons, particularly the more obscure works outside my own country.

Anyone else found this? And what have you discovered recently based on a “It sounds like…” forum comment?

I had that happen recently where someone on discord recommended me something that he thought sounded like my music. It was actually so much better than mine, super melodic and all sorts of things that I’d never really associate with my own music… but I didn’t want to be rude and say, “No, this is like next-level shit. I could literally never pull this off”.

I wish I could remember the artist mentioned because it was really damn good.

I get a lot of emails by startups trying to get me to shill their latest product (usually through my online stores) and sometimes they come in the form of weird love bombs. I got compared to Qebrus recently and I really don’t think that’s accurate either because his shit is (/was) better than pretty much 99.9% of music out there. Although if he was actually serious, I’m quite flattered by that one, but I can never tell. There’s a good chance I’m just an asshole who can’t receive a compliment

I had a “love bomb” after my first post to SoundCloud. No followers, one play and I’m the best thing since the big bang. You know the sort - we’ll promote you, get you a deal and, by the way, we need your bank account details please. Yes, Mr Scammer, I’m fresh off the boat so here’s my number and sort code. Duh!
