So xfer released serum 2
Now with granular synthesis and like, 3 oscillators.
Thoughts? I know a lot of you guys are really into physical synths and gensyn buutttttt
Wow, I truly missed out on this one. I’m going to pick up the demo and see what it can do, although I’m hoping it’s just the sessions that are limited to 15 minutes and that’s not the entire length of the demo
Kind of ambiguous when they put it that way, although 15-minute design challenges sound like a good time anyway
Im certainly getting serum 2 once I have some spare cash (which ain’t often)
I have it, will have to play around with it a bit. I’ve never really liked the way Serum 1 sounds overall and from some new presets I’ve quickly browsed through in Serum 2, it seems like my opinion is unlikely to change. We’ll see.
I don’t have time to try it right now, but it looked like it had pretty neat LFOs with loops and stuff in them? Kind of reminded me of the vector synth. If it can do that now, then I will pick it up at some point.
So real
It’s preeeeety popular because of its usability and shit, and serum 2’s got… More shit
Tested it a bit yesterday night but didn’t have much time. For me it’s an awesome update, but I already love v1…
Some really cool new stuff though, and having another filter and a third OSC with new synthesis types is great - not even sure I needed other OSC types though, I sticked mostly to wavetables so far haha, but the spectral type is very interesting - it covers some of the spectral-filter territory Iris and more esoteric stuff like Photosounder touched before imho.
And some new effects are awesome - that bode thingy is just crazy, I think I played around with that one most of the time yesterday hehe…
All in all it will probably become my new go-to synth for many things.
Serum 1 users get free upgrade! so dope. Used it a little bit the other night. Not bad XFER, not bad at all!
It must be the best Synth outhere yo !
I understand that the licence is for life so you can upgrade to v2 for free. It looks awesome but I wonder how much CPU it’s going to eat up once you delve into the new features?
My experiences with Serum 2 are good so far, but I didn’t have much time to try a lot of stuff out. I know it’s a topic on the Xfer forums. Some stuff such as granular osc can be hard on the CPU, and some people report issues with specific setups and DAWs. I would expect some improvements at some point, but my guess is that there is a LOT of feedback at the moment and that it might take some time to sort through it, set priorities and identify problems…
Might be prudent to wait for V2.1 once the teething problems are fixed. Same with all major releases of software - stick to the odd number revisions; they are usually more stable.
