A collection of 50 unreleased tracks made in my late teens and early 20s. These sat quietly on hard drives for 15 years, finished but never shared. for my space is a nod to the MySpace era, where I first started putting music out into the world, and a way to finally give these tracks a proper home online.
They were originally made under my old alias, Dow Jones, but I’m releasing them now under my real name, feels more right at this point.
About 95% of the tracks only existed as MP3s, so I’ve done some gentle cleanup and light remastering to get them into shape. I’m putting the whole thing out for free, but donations are always appreciated.
This is so vibey
like so small but huge at the same time. Love the occasional massive reese in Omnihn, and the fucking energy in Inevitable Crisis
Heatr’s got some really awesome chill
For a second I thought that Cross City Walk was going to be a UKG beat or something, that intro melody is awesome, dude. Again, vibeyyyyy
Heh
Adelaide junkie
Some of these sound like videogame OSTs, which I doubt you were going for but they’d work really well.
Don’t know what you were trying in “Final”
Chrowne, love me some breakcore <3<3<3
Obviously being 50 tracks and spanning many years of production between each, there is a backstory to them all. My main influences for these are pretty much Aphex, Squarepusher, Autechre (Amber), Virgil Donati/Planet X, New Zealand DnB artists like Concord Dawn/Shapeshifter, and various games and film music. Not saying that any track sounds like any of these artists (lol) but the influence is apparent.
Most of it is just experimentation with VST plugins and extensive manual drum programming. I also have a Morrison Digital Trumpet (midi) that makes an appearance on “Cleric2” and “epic”. (I still have it but haven’t used it in many years). As a trumpet player yourself, I’m sure you’ll be curious about that.
I could never figure out how to catagorise any of this.
Mmm, yeah I wouldn’t be able to tell because I don’t listen to any of those artists (barring Concord Dawn, I’ve heard of them before.)
yeah dude, the digital trumpet is heel lekker
It’s really hard to find good acoustic instrument… synth patches (that made no sense)
I think you get what I mean, yeah? Anyway, I love hearing trumpets in digital music, especially the more “dance” oriented songs.
You said that most of them existed as MP3s, but I’d love to look into remixing some of these if that’s okay? I can picture lots of HYPERGON amen breaks all over this stuff
I get what you mean. Although i did use some orchestral sampled instruments in some of these tracks, including trumpet and other horns, that wasn’t what I was referring to. The digi trumpet is a midi wind controller that I used on those tracks but the sounds are just random synth sounds, nothing resembling an actual trumpet. The point here is that it’s more of a nod to a more expressive form of production rather than clicking in midi notes as its most of these tracks. Some of them I used keyboards to perform (eg. Organ Works 1), but other than that it’s mouse clicked in a piano roll.
Oh man, I don’t know if these would survive another re-sample lol. I still have all of the original project files, (though almost all of them are just labelled a random number, so I don’t know what’s what.) so, I can extract MIDI, but none of the instruments were bounced to stems. So, it’s probably a pointless exercise. I could provide the “unmastered” versions of anything you want which is basically an mp3 converted to wav and then cleaned up in RX.
I have lossless files of
UNtitled, Millenium Train, Adelaide Junkie, Fifty Trip 4, Sellex, Fantasy Brutality, TheNewJeapardy, The Lucid, I’m not the one, T-2101, The Vigilant and the Virtuous, Heatr, I’m No, Thirty. Wow ok, more than I thought there was. That’s 72% mp3s not 95% lol
okay like give me a week to listen to this album in chunks and i’ll be back with my thoughts
honestly this is kinda cool just how much of a mixed bag it is
Yeah no, I got this, I was just thinking about it
I first heard about the digital trumpet years ago (this is my 8th year playing trumpet now) and just thought about some of the patches I’ve used before and how SHIT they sound
heh
FL BoobAss
My way of making things sound better is just cranking reverb and adding some OTT/Distortion in minor amounts, so I can probably figure something out
I dunno, I just had a thought about it, maybe not.
