silliness.
you gotta remember—you don’t always need to take yourself so damn seriously. we get so locked into making our kicks hit just right or making our wubs hella rumbly that we forget to laugh, to mess around, to smell the farts with the roses. seriously. sometimes you just gotta play. make dumb, goofy shit. you never know what’ll come out of it.
this whole thing started with a voice memo from my buddy trent, singing the melody from that painfully catchy eiffel 65 song “blue.” and, what do ya know, i already had a sample rack in ableton with chopped-up bits of trent—my loud, red-bearded rockstar of a friend. he’s a damn cartoon. no one like him.
he and his wife just had a baby, and they’re gettin married in new orleans this may. i’ve got the honor of being one of his groomsmen. bachelor party’s gonna be in vegas. please send thoughts and prayers.
i was crackin up the whole time makin this track—and somehow, now i feel totally recharged. ready to dive into those serious music projects i’ve been puttin off. i think i just needed a moment to mess around in the sandbox first.
reminder: producing is a muscle. sometimes you gotta go dumb to loosen it up. get silly, get weird, shake off the pressure, and just create.
anyone else got examples of makin goofy shit just for the hell of it?
