Nice to meet you. I'm someone who used to make IDM-based music as a hobby a long time ago

I think I first started making music before I turned 20, probably back in my teens. I probably didn’t know what kind of music I was making back then, but listening to it now, my crude teenage music definitely seems to have the soul of IDM. And it has that experimental music vibe too.

And back in my twenties, I worked incredibly hard making music. It was just a hobby, but it was truly enjoyable. Making music was immensely fun and made me feel great. That’s when I discovered IDM, and my music’s foundation was built around IDM, evolving into a style that blended all sorts of experimental, strange, bizarre, jazzy, dreamy genres.

I tried to add complex drumming, a Central Asian-inspired sound, tribal music elements, and a feel like it could be used in film scores. I also aimed to incorporate the melodic death metal vibe I love, along with shoegaze elements. Most importantly, I worked to add that dreamlike quality, like listening to it in a dream.

And I created a lot of music, right? I compiled it all into two albums. Even now when I listen to them, I think, “Ah, this is really my favorite style,” “This is a style I truly find satisfying to listen to.”

Time has passed, and I don’t listen to music much anymore. I don’t watch movies or dramas either. That said, I don’t completely avoid music. I just don’t listen for hours on end like I used to, all day long. It’s not that I’ve lost interest. I’m just too busy working, too tired, and can’t concentrate. Is it because I’m getting older? Or has my ability to focus just declined?

It feels like it’s been ages since I last made music. I tried launching FL Studio to start creating again, but my body feels tired and worn out. Haha, it’s fun, but I just can’t focus here. I have so many ideas, but my body is too exhausted. I guess my passion for this hobby has faded. Still, I’m trying to slowly start making music again.

Thanks for reading my long post. I didn’t even know there were websites related to IDM on the internet.

Oh, and if you have time, would you listen to my old, rough albums? It’s not an ad, I just want to share my old songs. I’m not making money off this, and I’ve uploaded them to YouTube just for storage.

I left the link, but I can’t post it. So I won’t leave the link.

IN THE REALMS OF THE UNREAL, The Man in the High Castle
These are the names of my two albums.

People here probably won’t go out of their way to find and listen to them, but if anyone’s curious, give them a search on YouTube.

Isn’t that the Pietà statue? I used a cover image that’s a cybernetic version of it. I used Photoshop—a manual AI creation method made by hand, using my own hands. Haha.

If anyone else makes music as a hobby like me, leave a comment below! I’ll listen to your music!

Anyway, nice to meet you all. I’ll be visiting here often. I hope we can share songs and chat together.

Man (or woman, or something else), you’ve come to the right place!

It sounds like you’ll fit in with us really well, and I hope you stick around to maybe rekindle that creative spark you’re searching for! I can’t wait to check out your work, and I’m really glad you’re here – most of us have been there, or are going through similar ruts in our creative journeys as well. We are also not getting any younger  .

I hope you find good company here, end up sharing your tunes and maybe even joining in on some of our crazy community and personal projects. Also, we’ve got a whole thread dedicated to FL Studio, but you’ll have to skip past my nonsense to get to the real meat of it!

It’s great to meet you and I hope you enjoy it here!

PS - I’m 99% sure every active member routinely creates music on here, and even those on a musical hiatus have expressed interest in returning to it. So that’s another added bonus

I’ll see if I have time to look at your stuff this weekend dude.

No promises, I’m studying for my CPA right now which leaves me with only 30 min free on my weeknights and a few hours on weekends. I totally get being too busy and tired to make music. It sucks, but I know I have some cool WIPS waiting for me once I get through this. Pulling up a random old project and trying to pick up where I left off can be a good way to get back into things because you don’t have to start from such a blank canvas.

Thanks for the comment. Before making new music, I plan to slowly create AI videos using Gemini’s video production feature, add background music from my old compositions, and upload them to YouTube. I have so many songs I don’t know when I’ll finish, but I really want to add videos to my music.

Once this project is done, I think I might start producing music again.

Oh, there’s a separate section for FL Studio. I’ve always relied on intuition when using FL Studio since I never received formal training. Actually, I never had any music education either, so everything had to be done intuitively and by feel. I’ll probably do the same if I start making music again.

I need to learn mixing, mastering, and all the DAW terminology. Maybe because I ignored this stuff since childhood and worked blindly, I feel a bit resistant to learning it now.

I should go make some videos using AI. It’s the weekend today, and I feel like messing around with AI for fun.

You don’t have to listen to my music. It’s not high-quality music anyway—just something I make as a hobby, created when I wanted to focus on my hobby life. I don’t want to bother other people’s ears.

I’d like to revisit and remake music from projects I started or half-finished in the past, but my old work environment is different now, and the data isn’t saved. I have to start completely from scratch. I can’t even remember what free synths I used to use regularly, and where I got samples from has long since faded from my mind. So right now, I’m starting anew from absolute zero.

I’m also working in design, pulling late nights constantly and working weekends too, so I have no time. I knew design was this difficult, frustrating, and exhausting, but experiencing it firsthand is awful. But what can I do? I gotta make money, haha.

Let’s all keep pushing forward, making music and advancing our professional careers.

Of course, I can’t speak English well, so I use a translator. Haha, sorry I can’t write content with a human touch. Your insight is truly profound.

Thanks, kind internet friend. But I posted here yesterday, and even though it’s my music hobby and I made it a long time ago, posting the link feels like promotion. Won’t people dislike it?

My YouTube channel address is @passnaught-vanyard

Don’t listen to this, haha. It’s really weird, so I sent the link when they asked, but it’s a bit embarrassing.
Because most people here are pros and seem to take music really seriously.

I’m listening to Man in the High Castle right now and really enjoying it. Routine is my favorite track after the first listen. Great sound design and arrangements in places.

I’m not particularly concerned about mixing or fidelity or any of that. I think you have good taste in production (at least taste that I enjoy) and these tracks don’t sound like everything else. It’s inventive and it’s yours. I’d be interested to hear whatever you make in the future.

Thank you for being considerate of me.

Thank you for listening to the last album out of the two. It also blends various older songs together.

“Routine” is the first song I played for my mother, and it was also a song she loved. This music was inspired by the first trailer for the game Project Routine.

It’s a song designed to express horror with a style suitable for film and a sense of being chased. Take a look at Project Routine’s first launch trailer, and you’ll understand what I mean.

I create music inspired by diverse genres. What I prioritized was the sonic texture—like the color of the music—and rhythms that feel like they control your body. That’s why I used complex rhythms and heavy drum beats.

While the album contains experimental music, from my perspective, it also includes more ordinary-sounding tracks. It’s a combination of music crafted to be as ordinary as possible. In a way, it’s a collection of songs attempting to step away from the influence of IDM.

Thank you for listening to my music so kindly. I can’t even remember how many years it’s been since I stopped making music. I started as a hobby, and even if I were to start again, it would probably remain a hobby.

I’m truly grateful for the praise on my music, and I’m thankful to all the diverse music existing on this planet that allowed me to create this kind of music. I just pieced it together, drawing inspiration from all that music out there.

If I make music again next time, I’ll post it here again. Right now, I’m making simple looping videos with AI and uploading them to YouTube. I’ve thought about it for a while—it’s music, but I wanted to add something special to the visuals. AI seems like a really great tool.

Though making music with AI is pretty weird, haha.

Thanks for listening to my music. Have a great day, online friends.

you passed. welcome. even if you are a bot you’re a nice bot. trust level raised upgraded. :facehugger:

good to see fresh profiles and hear fresh sounds around here!

Me too!!

I’ve read with my eyes twice and this is my first time doing audiobook. Such an amazing one. I just finished A Scanner Darkly and We Can Remember It For You Wholesale (such a weird story)

Well, I know it’s a good novel and I know the story too. I watched the first episode of the drama, but it wasn’t that interesting. And the only sci-fi I’ve read is Neuromancer, haha.

Ok I’m tired of reading trying to find it… @defdaa what is your artist name on these releases?
