Welcome, I’m sure you’ll quickly see this is sort of a bit of everything forum. Sounds like you’re into production, and a bit more of a hardware fan too? If you haven’t got one already those cheap lil USB to MIDI converters are a great start for sequencing hardware from a DAW.
Once again welcome, always nice to see someone else acquainted with AFX lore.

Yeah the forum has many daily life side rooms outside the main topic, which is kinda refreshing. At the moment, my main interest is production though, most of my hardware experience is with digital pianos, so the whole MIDI/DAW hardware side of things is still kinda a new horizon for me to explore further. About APX, I just know some basic facts about him honestly. It’s hard to ignore at times when his “QKThr” is constantly being added as a meme song

Lol yea, I noticed about three years back Qkthr was taking off as a tiktok background track, honestly was a bit shocked to hear his stuff on content aimed at… for lack of better term, “normies”.
Digital pianos are awesome, does yours have a MIDI or USB? They’re great MIDI controllers, certain melodies and composition techniques are much easier on a piano keyboard than arranging notes in a DAW piano roll.
If you haven’t gotten a DAW yet, I’d recommend LMMS, it’s free and it’s available on Windows and Linux. Might be available on MacOS too, not sure. It has some big limitations, mostly that it has limited support for VSTs and other plugins, but the synths and effects it comes with are a good start.
One tip for production - if you find yourself getting stuck on trying to make a full song you like, take a break and make a short song that’s “listenable” (even if it’s something super simple and basic), maybe even save it off to the side somewhere. Sometimes something is better than nothing.
