I think the theremin instrument and moog where considered to be the first synthesizers.
Before that people played with tape machines and modifying them amongst other things.
I think a producer for one of the Beatles album created effects that we now know today as delay, chorus, reverb , flanger, phaser….just by fking around with the signal of the guitar amp….so….

I think electronic music started with musique concrete by some French hipsters… or was that ambient? Must’ve been ambient, I think the first electronic music was by some German guys. And techno started somewhere in Michigan I think.
Silver Apples on the Moon and Switched on Bach are often cited as the earliest stuff, but Raymond Scott’s Soothing Sounds for Baby has them beat by five years (1962):
The Soundtrack for Forbidden Planet was the first entirely electronic score and that was in 1956:
It’s kind of funny that a lot of us are inclined to make similar ‘early electronic’-sounding music when we first start out, too. Noise and musique concrete are sort of perfect for overlaying samples, experimenting with complementing (or sharply contrasting) textures without having to really learn too much about any one particular system.
That shit still has value, and likely always will, for the right person.
