Hello IDMfers - nice to be here again!

Hey folks -

I’m Martin; I go under the name Morpion (which I only discovered was French for pubic lice about 3 years after I’d been calling myself that, but that’s another story), and I used to post here on the forums about ten or twelve years ago, maybe even longer?? Anyway, IDMf/Glitchpulse released my first ever tracks (and first album) way back then, but then I had a family and stuff and wasn’t getting much time for music, but then it started up again a couple of years ago and although I’ve had tracks on some more recent compilations I’ve generally just been staying in the background because I’m pretty shit at social media and stuff, and don’t tend to post a lot online - buuuut - I’ve got a new album coming out on Glitchpulse on the 30th July and thought I’d like to come out of the shadows for at least a short while, mainly because I’d love to talk about it with people who give a shit about stuff like this! (if or when people decide to listen to it, of course!).

The music I make is usually a kind of '90s influenced, but much more jaded, rave/jungle style, I guess, (full disclosure: I’m about to turn 50 (fuck I’m old), and as far as I’m concerned the '90s only happened a decade ago, and the way the world is now, and appears to be heading, is frankly fucked up, which is kind of what the new album’s about), but more recently I’ve been getting some inspiration from vapourwave, especially over the start of the pandemic when I went totally head-first down a seemingly endless vapourwave rabbit-hole. I suppose I’d describe it as dance music that can’t be bothered to be danced to even though sometimes it tries hard. I want to say it’s jaded dance music (JDM) rather than Intelligent (IDM) haha. Fuck, I’m definitely old, I just typed haha.

Looking forward to seeing if anyone I remember is still around (I’m betting that Jazzyspoon is, and tuneboxii too, at least? Almark? Sorry if I’ve forgotten anyone else!), and hearing what’s going on in IDM these days and listening to up-and-coming artists who I bet wipe the floor with the shit I do. Some of the stuff on the 20th anniversary comp was fantastic!

Anyway, I’ll shut up now - this is exactly why I don’t post on the internet often, I always end up writing far too much and it’s usually so much crap.

(*I know I should probably write “vaporwave”, but I’m from the UK so if I don’t put a ‘u’ in it I feel like an idiot)

Welcome back! I’m listening to that first release of yours now, great stuff! Keen to hear what else you’ve got coming out. And don’t worry, 50 is the new 36

Glad to have you around again @Morpion! Since we’ve been chatting via email for about 2 years now it’s about time you did

Headcleaner” is one of my favourite IDMf releases so kudos to that.

FYI, Morpion is one of the labels most decorated artists. Featured on 8 compilations, an album (with the 2nd imminent) and 3/5 of the Retrospective Volumes (with his works remastered in all it’s glory). Easiest way to see all his work in the one spot is our website: Glitchpulse Catalogue | Search Morpion

Will be making an announcement soon for the upcoming release!

Welcome back, I’m pretty new here. ‘The Version in Which We Reside’ is quite the headbanger. UK underground electronic and rave culture back in the 90’s/early 00’s looks sick af, you get to experience that firsthand by chance :meowrave:?
