Hi all, I don’t know how I’m only just now signing up for this forum.

I got hooked on ambient works of Aphex Twin in freshman year of highschool. Discovered the rest of his discog, along with artists like BoC, Autechre, Flying Lotus, Kettel, Squarepusher, Secede, etc etc.

Checking out Aphex Twin CDs from the local library afterschool is one of my fondest adolescent slice of life type memories. Mind you this was the early to mid 2010’s, I coulda just youtubed his stuff lmao :computer_disk::headphone::baby:

Kinda defined my musical ecosystem going into my brief college career… back in… 2016 thru late 2010’s. Feels like an eternity ago, hard to believe my 20’s are nearly past me!

Anyways, pretty excited to be here in an active community of other IDM fans

Besides IDM I also like rap, hip-hop, rock (mostly 90’s/early 2000’s alt/poppy stuff and grunge), classical (mostly Chopin nocturnes and etudes tbh), some gen Z gloomy stuff, some jazz, some R&B, and pop music. Recently found some new appreciation for 2000’s Lady Gaga. I wouldn’t say I like ALL music, just not terribly picky.

I do a bit of musical experimentation myself, nothing big, I play piano and get into occasional eccentric bedroom producer shenanigans.

:top_hat:But uh yea poking around these forums I see quite a few curiosities and piquers of interest, so I’m sure you’ll see me around. :tada:

Kettel and Secede are so underrated; the fact that you mentioned them at all makes me like you already. Welcome!

Yea Kettel is one of my faves, some of their stuff hits this sweet spot of being light and whimsical, but not corny. A lot of moodier reflective and pondering stuff too. And the Poblesec music video is beautifully hilarious. When Can was an incredible collab.

Speaking of underrated artists I also quite like Proem, you heard any of their stuff?

There are some artists I like but I only know one or two of their tracks from channels like drillobite. Searching for more of their stuff you get blank soundcloud and bandcamp pages, or some obscure label that briefly sold CDs a few years back.

That’s the great thing about music though, can’t always find a lot of a specific type you like, but can always find more types you like.
