Morpion’s Someday all of this shit will be yours looks at the present from two directions at once: through a parent imagining the world his children will inherit, and through a future self looking back on the reality that came to pass.
Moving through shifting timelines and possible futures, the album confronts authoritarianism, online misogyny, artificial intelligence, unaccountable wealth and the uncertain place of human-made art and culture. Its perspective is restless, but not defeated. However the future resolves, hope can still generate action. And action can move reality somewhere better.
Tracks three and six briefly inhabit imagined futures in which that hope has prevailed. Their softer, dreamlike production sets them apart from the album around them: glimpses of realities that feel settled, humane and possible.
The cover began with a large early-twentieth-century group photograph displayed in the bank at Beamish Museum, accompanied by a hand-drawn key identifying the hundreds of people pictured. Morpion was drawn to the tracing rather than the photograph itself: stripped of names and detail, its numbered figures suggest an anonymous elite, recognisable through posture and dress but detached from everyone outside the room.
That image mirrors the album’s central tension. The present contains countless possible futures; from inside any one of them, the path that produced it can appear inevitable. Someday all of this shit will be yours moves between those viewpoints, asking what today’s choices will leave behind while refusing to accept that decline is the only possible inheritance.
