I’ve got no idea what it takes to run a label (sounds like a headache to me and I salute you for your efforts) but if the new branding is working, then it’s definitely a good thing. Personally, changes like this seem kind of cosmetic and don’t really influence my opinion all that much more than the music itself, but I also understand that a lot of this changes public perception and leads to greater things down the road (like people posting on the forum again like old times!). I’ve personally never really been a fan of the label (I have shitty / weird tastes, it’s not personal obviously) but I always dig the energy that goes into it, if that counts.
I also kind of wish I had something to offer, too, to help out. But I think my weird tastes kind of get in the way (which sort of happened with previous collaborative attempts), but I always like seeing whatever new stuff comes out of the label, for whatever that’s worth.
Aw hell yeah. I agree on this one, but I’m extremely biased
My 2 cents, and no I don’t necessarily have the answers…
Firstly, I think you’ve done an amazing job “refreshing” the label. Clearly, a lot of time and reflection has been thrown into this. We (humans) take things for granted and people tend to forget that a little appreciation goes a long way. Therefore: kudos to you - thanks for your hard work keeping this alive despite the many barriers in 2025.
I did prefer the term IDMf to Glitchpulse. But I see where having the “f” in there mean “forum” was dating the thing. All in all, just personal taste, it doesn’t matter.
In terms of expanding the reach: that’s the hard part.
Spotify: maybe creating playlists with “classic big names” (you know Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Beefcake, etc.) alongside Glitchpulse artists could get the algorithms to pay attention and direct listeners to the label? (I don’t use Spotify myself so I don’t know what may work best)
Soundcloud and similar platforms seem to only reach small audiences (unless you’re looking for mainstream stuff), so I’m not sure it would be worth spending time on these.
We’ll pretty much all agree that young blood is needed to keep it alive. We’re not in our 20’s and don’t have the necessary energy & free time to spend on promotion. Youngsters live on TikTok, reddit & co. So this is where promotion should happen, where someone who’s available & active on those avenues could spread the word, making short-form videos/whatever is popular these days to help bring folks to the label & forum. Maybe you could pin a thread or make a banner asking people who are interested to get in touch?
Thanks @bfk I do love this idea. I have a personal project that involves a lot of this and just bought some contact/binaural mics and a Zoom H5 to do it. Would be great to do a comp themed on it. Clan Analogue had submissions open for a comp like this and our mastering engineer is going to be mastering it, but I have no idea when it will be released. As far as I’m aware they extended the deadline (likely due to lack of participation). Here is the link Stories from the Field - compilation album entry form
Yeah, this exactly. I’ve been enjoying seeing more people around here
You can offer your music and/or your ideas. After all this is a community label and doesn’t have a future without contributions.
Thanks @morphic. It’s not as easy task, and when there is no feedback loop it’s hard to know whether or not to keep doing what you’re doing. I have taken the past couple of months off putting much time into the label, because I really needed to focus on my family and I must say, it’s been really enjoyable.
Yeah look, each to their own. Not everyone has to like it. I convinced myself this was the way forward and since I was one of only a few people that vocally cared about it, I just ran with it because I was passionate about it.
I actually did make a playlist a year ago on Spotify for this exact reason. Glitchpulse Vibes - playlist by Glitchpulse Records | Spotify Part of doing the Retrospective releases was to get the IDMf music on streaming services and put it in this playlist, but making a playlist is easy, getting the playlist in front of people is the hardest part.
Yeah, I said this to @RFJ a long time ago. So, I agree. There has been some young blood join over the past year too so it’s only a matter of time.
