Hello all,
Here is my favourite track, “Nope”, off of the PBB self-release, Galactic Graffiti.
It was inspired by (and named from) the Jordon Peele film, “NOPE”.

I really enjoyed the textures and atmosphere in this. Very cinematic. Nicely done.
Thank you!
this is intense ambient, just the way i like it. very nice
It’s a really captivating track. I agree with Jazzy about it being cinematic, though I guess that’s appropriate given the inspiration.
I’m curious about the warbly higher frequency sound that comes in around 3:30. Is that a processed vocal? On repeated listens I could swear there’s some formants in the there.
Thank you! I went back and opened the track up to see as I could not remember. I thought at first it was a bird song I had recorded in Panama but it was actually a sample from GrowlerMusic “Electromagnetic Fields” sample pack, sample 33 (you can find them on Bandcamp). This was then processed using Logic’s EQ, Unfiltered Audio “Silo”, Unfiltered Audio “Fault”, and then finally iZotope “Trash”. I put up a screen grab. You can see the basic presets used but I think they have been tweaked … maybe. Unfiltered Audio is my favourite FX company … their stuff is so much fun!
Thank you for the breakdown! I went and listened to #33 and I can totally see where the timing is coming from, then it looks like the oscillator on Fault’s freq shifter is making the “warble” I’m hearing.
I’m a long time user myself, at least for a few of their plugins. Fault, Sandman and Dent are all in my plugin favorites. I’ve always appreciate their combo of features and UI, it’s really intuitive to play with and I always end up with really wild sounds just by messing around. I’m not familiar with Silo, I’ll have to check it out.
I really appreciate the peek behind the curtain. I can geek out all day about workflows and processes around making weird sounds!
Hey @Artificer, you’re welcome! Most of the FX I use come from within Logic or purchased from Unfiltered Audio. I think I have everything except “Lion” and the drum machine … which looks super like it would be very cool! Lion I don’t need and the beat machine is too expensive for me. All the ones I have from them were purchased from Plugin Alliance, which often has big sales on stuff. Most of the other outside plugins I use (like the iZotope Trash 2) were free downloads.
One other company who has some really great stuff for not much money is Puremagnetik — like UA stuff, very cool and super useful (for me, at least) plugins. They have a current bundle set on sale at the mo’:
@Artificer
I have a few plugins from Klevgrand that also are great to use!
Lion is so overlooked but a lot of fun to play with. I guess it’s kind of in a niche little pocket of generators, but it’s awesome that it’s got BYOME on board, pretty much ![]()
Also I think UA’s Sunder and Yoko are free inside of VCV, iirc. If you like hidden gems! Great music as usual, and nice choice of sounds! ![]()
I’ve seen the name Puremagnetik but I don’t think I’ve ever used any of their plugins - some of those look pretty wild. I’ll have to dig in. Thanks for the heads up.
Are you familiar with Glitchmachines? They’re another company who I think makes really creative, out-there effects that can get you some strange sounds. Cataract is one I play around in a lot during sound design. If you’re in the business of abusing perfectly good samples, there’s a lot on offer.
Check out Audio Damage by Chris Randall. I hate using the G word (genius) but damn that dude is smart. He’s a friend of a friend irl but I think he was a member here back in the day IDMf v1.0. Same with Jack Audio… wonder what he’s up to now.
Yeah I like and regularly use their stuff.
Hi @wayne, thank you for the Audio Damage hint and link … totally unfamiliar with them. Dubstation 2 and Enso have immediately grabbed my attention! ![]()
