Community Remixes

Appreciate that… but I’m interested in the challenge of sticking with the original stems. Especially this first time attempt.

Hmmm… looks like I didn’t post this when I should have. :man_shrugging:

Here’s the latest. No Automation yet but a taste of Reverb in the Master a bit of Panning. Oh and a compressor on the Master as well.

Thoughts? :thinking::thinking::thinking:

Both are fun, ASPR is most enjoyable to these ears :ear::ear: (I’ve heard about “two left feet…” but two left ears? can someone fix that?) :man_shrugging:

Ok Ive finally made some time to listen to this @1roomstudio Permutations 10.
Nice intro.
The arp comes in a little sudden for my ears and remove the clap - a minor critique I see Manton also picked up on this.
I would allow the bass to be more of a feature throughout the mid section and maybe this is where the clap should be introduced to extenuate the bass being welcomed into the track.
I like the slowing and speeding up - although I wouldnt have it so soon in the track, saviour the flavour - less is always more.
Nice bass work…cuts are a little curt, maybe look closer at the waveform where they’re cut/spliced.
Little tip I learnt years ago:
Micro editing the sample/waveform the first cut of a part should be on the 0db line going up and vice vera on the way down at the end. It sounds like its not particularly tight. See the redlines below - I normally zoom in as far as I can to get a clean transitional edit.
image
It’s a hard one - but the flow overall isn’t quite there, the ideas are great - execution needs a little rework - it feels a little like a collage of sound and needs some grace.
Due to this, the track has a start but really feels like there’s no mid or ending - hope this makes sense.]
as Manton states - glitches on the drums or parts would create some listener stimulation and bring it more into the idm fray.
Im being hyper critical with these comments and only on the arrangement atm.
It’s got mileage for sure, keep at it mate.

Super insightful observations @MFXxx some of which caused me to really think about it. I was tempted to push back (again) an “the clap” but then I read this:

That speaks to me and now I’m getting why @Manton brought it up.

I like it too… and I’ll think about that  This is the same feeling I had about pushing back on “the clap” so I’ll see if letting go of the introduction of that Motif later benefits the piece… truthfully, it might be a better build.

This is such an AMAZING! :star_struck: tIP! :star_struck: Can’t wait to try it… a little shy about owning up how I normally deal with this… and I thought I was “detailed.” :man_shrugging:

You got me… this is how I work and I totally defend the process… definitely “,needs some grace”

I’m re-inspired, Thank you

Nice to see more participation in this project.

In the folder I have added @tuneboxii’s stems for Ciència i Ficció.

I plan on doing some remixing myself, but have not had the time.

For now, i will leave you with this remix of Cincuenta i did on an MPCX and Bass Station 2 a few years ago. I’m planning on throwing it in the DAW and making it better but at the time I was educating myself in doing everything out of the box. Also, I mastered this myself and distastefully slammed the living fuck out of it, haha.

Holy shit, I was just digging through an OLD hard drive and found HALOGEN - Length and Brecht stems. @wayne

OK… Here is my final version, I’ve done my best to address the comments from @Manton and @MFXxx Not saying I’ve nailed it but this mere mortal has rung all the juice he can out of this peach.

I took the touch of reverb off the Master and Volume Automated most of the Synth tracks and the Bass. Added a bit of Tambo and High-Hat (from original stems) adjusted the bass and the claps… and … and… don’t remember what else.

It’s been fun!

Onward :sunglasses:

Whoa, this is awesome. Much better than the original

Anyone doing DAW-specific community remixes? I have some miscellaneous xrns files I’d throw into the pot as well if anyone wanted to mess with something like that. One track was accepted to be included as an official demo for renoise, but fell through because I couldn’t get it under 5-20 MB. So that’s fair game, too

Sounds great @1roomstudio!

Probably best you removed the reverb from the mbus because it generally not good practice to use it there.

Enjoyed the listen, twice!

Much appreciated! I’m happy with it… learned a lot, always do with the mentoring of the IDMf gang.

Thank you! Glad I managed to finish strong-ish.

Regarding “Reverb on the Master” would love to hear the debate on that subject, as well as other “Dos and Don’ts” on the Master.

Maybe a better topic in a different part of the Forum but here is my thought… If you record several tracks and want the effect of “all of this was recorded in the same room,” It seems reverb on the Master would achieve that. Maybe that’s a naïve assumption.

I learn so much here! :sunglasses: :beers:
