Anyone upgrade their FL to the “all plugins” edition?
I’m thinking of finally pulling the trigger on it and especially since I’m hoping to get into production (and hopefully get it running on linux, which from what I hear is soon), wondering if people got extra use out of them.
I’m on signature as well. The only native plugins I still use regularly are Sytrus and Harmor, and Harmor is from the all plugins bundle so I paid for that one separately. Most of the other stuff the all plugins bundle brings is either really niche (ogun and sakura), old/outdated (poizone is like a precursor to Harmor), or I have long since started using a 3rd party version from Izotope/Arturia/etc.
The all plugins bundle has grown significantly since I last looked at it, and there are a lot of cool ones in there that I don’t get on signature (their 303 and Juno emulations, the new bass sculpting plugin, a better reverb, etc).
I don’t know about running stuff on Linux, though I would point you to airwindows as everything they make is free and runs on Linux. I would say if you are looking to go to Linux and Image Line actually port everything over, then it might be the easiest way to get up and running. However, when they went Mac I remember that was not a smooth ride, and they still don’t have certain plugins working on Mac. I would wait and see how the Linux rollout goes before committing the money if Linux is your main goal.
Haha well fortunately I’m from the stone age (FL 10) and the wine database says I could have a “platinum” experience. The worst I’ve heard is the graphical end is a little more complex for wine to sort out.
I made the switch overall to Linux in January in my home setup, barring music. I took several years away from it just because of life, but considering gaming has worked so well I’m getting curious.
I’m just curious how much use people get out of the full “preem” setup, really. Because that’s the only thing I haven’t upgraded and it would only be another $100 (hey, maybe there’ll be a black Friday discount). I’m probably most curious about Sakura and Harmor but I’m lookingto actually record.
I have a lot of bullshit posted in the FL Studio thread about it, but I’m wanting to upgrade from signature as well. I mostly just run patcher for youtube streams and jams, but every time there’s a hiccup all the native plugins think I’ve tried to save and retrieve states so they lock me out
(Or do I have producer? I think I’m on tier 2 of 4, whichever that is)
I kind of hate how much FL crashes like a motherfucker, but being able to pick up where you left off if you’re using anything from the suite seems worth it enough. If you use a lot of external VSTs and CLAPs it’s probably not worth it, since you already have access to the entire patcher / mixer / whatever bays
I just couldn’t resist and got the version for 1 buck today - it’s over 110 GB of samples in 6000 instruments…checked out some of the sounds, nothing too crazy so far but quality stuff.
Very happy with the samples so far but no idea about the license policy tbh. Is is about license transfer or about using the stuff for some types of commercial projects?
For a second I thought this sucked ass until I realized that it literally comes with an internal version of Mixbox(!). I’m assuming you can create libraries with this as well? Being able to run samples through a mildly-inconvenient Mixbox seems pretty awesome for $1, even though a lot of the sounds are a bit wonky
Some of the drum kits are kind of cool though, admittedly. I love the pianos, too
I haven’t had much time, so no idea if you can use it to create libraries and I only checked a small fraction of the sounds. I think it’s not on the level of EastWest or Ample, but I still like what I heard so far. I mostly got it to have some more options and variety when I want to try out some instrument quickly. For 1 buck I think it’s really great, but for full price, not so much…
Haven’t heard of MIxbox before but good to hear that there seem to be some nice effects included. Maybe I’m gonna dive into it more later tonight and comment a bit more on it…
One really cool feature is that you can lock down the FX (I think most of them are just over-processed and that’s why they sound so bad by default), so if you load up a channel strip or something basic, lock it down and then go sample-hunting, you get a lot of more naturally-sounding stuff.
It looks like constructing your own samples might be a selling point on this one. They don’t have scripting like Falcon or Halion, but I think you can at least create libraries and then essentially use Mixbox on them which is awesome.
Multiple MIDI ports definitely means it’s external controller / livecoding friendly though
CA’s having a blowout sale right now for anyone who wants to get into (IMO the best, and most easy-to-use) modular out there. You pretty much get all of the staples you’ll ever need with these packs. Also, even if you don’t want to use modular in the traditional sense, you can build infinite channel strips and all sorts of things to use as a VST with no crazy, in-depth knowledge required.
Dev licenses are at $33 right now, too. Just snagged me one of those
That sounds nice! Haven’t done much with the effects so far, just using it for the sampled instruments. The huge number of different instruments in this is pretty crazy. Already used it in a few tracks I’m working on for additional layers and variations of sounds. My son also really likes to skip through all those presets and instruments. If he wants a guitar sound now, I can just point him to the huge list of presets in SampleTank instead of a single Ample Guitar that takes forever to load… I think it’s the best 1 buck HumbleBundle deal I got so far…
Paintshop’s $1 on Humble right now, for those of you who make 2D art. Seems like it’s stocked with some interesting AI features (normally I hate this kind of shit, but at least it’s new for them and they’re wearing me down slowly).
Some of the AI filters remind me of some of the awesome (albeit bloaty) PS plugins I used to obtain years ago. Kind of cool having similar shit on tap for a buck, even if this thing doesn’t even rival Photopea
Plugin Boutique is having a huge UAD sale right now. I nabbed the Destressor and the Classics collection. Oh EM FRIGGEN GEEEE am I pumped. Been doing a bunch of generative jazz stuff in Renoise with custom made break beats in Slate drums slammed through a Fairchild comp with the Ampex Tape machine at the end of the chain. My sub woofer is crying in pain.
Here are some freebies that i use and have been recommended.
1: Spectral Plugins lineup(haven’t used these yet, but came to me as a recommendation)
There are three free plugins:
Spacer: Modular creative effects and reverb
Pancz: Audio Manipulation
OCS-45: Cassette tape emulation
2: Michael Norris Spectral Plugins (Note; These are AU plugins, so i believe these will only work for mac users)
A fantastic collection of plugins for all sorts of things. I’ve used these for a very long time and they are some of my bread and butter.
3: Airwindows Consolidated(Highly recommended!)
Another great collection of effects from tape emulation to reverb to filters and so much more. Don’t be fooled, these are for mac as well as PC. This link lets you download the GUI plugin for use in DAW’s and other similar setups.
(edit: I misread renoise as reason. where’s that coffee again?)
Rack extensions are all on sale right now (only happens every once in a while, i believe?). Been digging the game of life pattern generator, chord generators, etc. RIP, my wallet.
ChordSQ is definitely going to be my theory-buddy for a while. Reason’s version lets you input your own MIDI chords into the banks which is absolutely nuts.
Also snagged Punchbox for under $50. What a time to be alive
@metaside noted this last time irrc, but Sampletank is on sale again for just $1 on humble.
Now for the sales pitch.
It’s kind of worth $1 just for the cool drum hits and baked-in Mixbox (seriously, it’s unrestricted access to Mixbox so long as you run samples through it or use the large library provided), so it’s kind of worth that, at least. Most of the sounds are overproduced (again, with mixbox), but you can easily shut off the modules they fucked up their own sounds with and just slam them with their killer channel strips instead. Wait, not everybody does that? Erhmm, moving on…
It also comes with something like 150GB (give or take) when you tally up all of the packs. It’s definitely bloaty and inflated in order to feel like you’re getting a shitload of samples (it feels more like 50GB, tops irl) but it’s still worth it for that $1.
Crazy that it’s on sale again so fast, I never saw that before with Humble Bundles - usually they just extend a bundle… Maybe the next version is around the corner? Or they make it a permanent sale soon?
Good library though imho, maybe not top-notch, like don’t expect Ample Sound or East West quality and flexibility, but LOTS of ok instruments to try stuff out, using it a lot when making music with Metaside jr.
Still haven’t really tried out the included effects very much - not making much music atm if it’s not a collab or something I need for a game or some other project…
Another IK special, Mixbox is $20 right now instead of like $300 or whatever it normally is. Kind of absurd
Also those goodies from Christmas are still up for grabs, in case anyone wants that Sampletank bundle. I can’t believe some bot didn’t at least scrape them or something
