BB93 - Arbitrary Title

#1

I’m bad at naming things, so come up with something that is hard to to describe with a single word.

  1. Use an odd time signature (3/4, 5/4, 9/8 etc.)
  2. Convey a negative emotion throughout the track.
  3. BPM between 125-135

SAMPLES

Start Date: Feb 7th
End of entry window/Voting starts: Feb 17th
Voting Ends: Feb 20th

Beat Battle General Rules:

Beat Battles take place over the course of two weeks. The first ten days users will have to arrange, upload, and post their track to this forum. After this, the next three days users cast their votes for their favorite track. At the end of this, the winner will be announced, and they will then become the next Beat Battle host, and will have one day to construct a battle pack and begin the next Beat Battle.

Unless otherwise stated, the only sample/audio sources you may use for your song must come from the battle pack.

In the event of a tie, the battle host will decide the winner.

Ps: All skill levels welcome. Feel free to leave a blurb of feedback to the submitters. Please keep feedback constructive and don’t be dicks to each other.

Fun, will give me a reason to look into atonality!

#3

Ooooh, Could be fun to dive into some minor key 6/8 stuff. I can dig it! Thanks for hosting @Trebesch!

#4

I lied, I tried to write something that was atonal… I really didn’t know what I was doing. Wrote this instead

I know the rules said to have the track at 125-135… But I put this at 136 bpm…

#5

Bit of a lazy mix. Seems everyone is busy - very few views this time around.

#6

Deadline is midnight GMT for anyone that may be working on something, just FYI.

#7

GET TO THE DEADLINE!! GET TO THE DEADLINE, NOWWWWWWW!!!
edit god dammit this is a full sentence

#8

when you’re at the irish funeral and the bagpipe you got in india has a poltergeist so everybody dies
135bpm @ 9/16 tempo

#9

Anyone got any late entries before we start voting?

#10

I might try to whip something up tonight, within 11.5 hours.

#11

Eh, I forgot to finish this, so it’s late and unmixed.

It’s about being a robot and going through the motions of daily life with no end goal.

#12

Are we gonna start voting on this slut or what?

#13

I’m voting for @Brogner. Some lovely 8 bit medieval melodic music. Never been very good at writing melodies myself.

#14

I’ll have to return the love and vote for @Trebesch. Really great audio design and harmonic motion.

#15

Brillant entries all around!

sorry my vote has to go to @Blingley. Some granular, re-sampled, chopped, stretched, filtered, well balanced work going on there!

Not discrediting anyone else, but yeah that’s a pretty solid piece.

#16

We have a 3 way tie!!!

#17
Blingley - Nothing to Live For
Nice kinda somber track. Strange weirdness, cool.

Valk - Hindu Bagpipe Poltergeist
Crazy bagpipes. Cool bass sounds. I like that
bass kick and drums.

Trebesch
The drums I like, that kinda quiet,
putting-into-a-trance drums

Brogner - based on random choice name of a
book, composition, or other artistic work
Nice lo-tech midi sounds. Like the medievally
midi goodness. Makes me want to throw some
notes in on some basic synth, just having some
fun with it.

I'm putting my vote towards @Brogner's track!

#18

Thanks for breaking the tie, IO.

Congrats @Brogner, hope yours goes smoother than mine :+1:

Thank you everyone who participated! I will try to have something ready to go saturday afternoon at the latest
