Welcome to Member Releases!
This is where you promote your own releases (or your label’s). You can also vote for releases you like. Voting does not affect anything yet, other than potentially causing someone to feel warm & fuzzy on the inside.
- Who qualifies as a member?
Anyone who has an account here at IDMf is considered a member. If you’re new here, you won’t have clearance to post in this topic until you spend some time lurking and posting around other areas of forum. Specifically, you must be a member for a month and have 30 posts. Don’t worry, we want to hear your music! But to reduce spam and encourage community engagement, we’d like to get to know you a bit first to prevent people from signing up, dropping a bunch of links, then leaving. Don’t be that person!
- What exactly constitutes a “release”?
The Member Releases section is for finished and released music. This means you’re done tweaking it, you published it in whatever way, this is its final form, and it’s out there in the world – now you want to share it. Albums, Full lengths, EPs, Compilations, Singles, DJ Mixes, YouTubes, Live Jams, Recorded Performances etc.
- Which of my music doesn’t belong in this topic/section?
Works in progress (WIPs) do not belong here. If you’re not done with it, you’re in the wrong place. All WIPs belong in The Listening Booth.
- I’m a member here, but I represent another label/production crew/community. Is it ok if we share our community’s music here?
See Below.
ATTENTION LABELS, NETLABELS, COLLECTIVES!!!
If you are representing a label or production company and want to share new music releases from your catalogue with us (that isn’t necessarily “yours”), we suggest starting ONE thread/topic using that as a landing page for posting your crew’s new output. With enough time spent and post count here (aka contributing to the forum aka NOT dropping a new release and bouncing out), you will gain access to editing the OP (first) post as if it were a landing page on your own website. So that means: instead of posting new threads for each album, because if the artists you are showcasing aren’t members here there is a good chance your post will be ignored.
Don’t create a thread for every release. It’s convaluting and won’t do you any favors. Stick to one thread.
- No one is reading my thread or listening to my music. Why?
Did you post your album and leave without clicking onto someone else’s thread in this topic and check out their music/comment on it? That’s pretty much why. If you engage with others here, there’s a good chance they’ll come check out what you’re up to as well. That’s how forums work. We are all real human beings here, and if you don’t make yourself seen by genuinely showing interest in the scene, there’s a good chance the scene won’t see you either.
- Ok, I went into a bunch of threads and commented the world “cool”, and I’m still not getting anyone listening to my stuff. What did I do wrong?
We don’t blame you, we blame your parents.
This forum is not a bulletin board, it’s a community. If you want people to see you, then you have to acknowledge them. We’re human beings remember, not bots hosting your embed content. If someone here likes you’re music, they’ll tell you. Don’t a drive-by posting of your content as well as giving shitty one-word comments on other people’s threads (without listening probably too) might satisfy the bots and algorithms on other platforms, but not here. This place is run and maintained by humans. This place isn’t social media, it’s just social. Spending time getting to know us before you start dropping beats on us, because that’ is like going to a party without bringing anything, taking a shit then bouncing, all the while wondering why no one talked to you.
