He makes some good points; I’ve still never even attempted recording audio in FL just yet because of the sheer confusion of where the fuck things are going to end up. Record to this track? How about the one next to it? Oh, I can put it directly into an instance of Edison (the audio editor) and then you can go and fish it out.
Also I think Live fixed the panning issue and a few of the other gripes he had. Maybe he even had an influence on a few of their updates after that one, since more people are likely to bandwagon. Premade M4L should get a hall pass for usability though, maybe, because you don’t have to sit around and tweak in order to get them to work. They’re just like legos that make your workflow a million times better.
The case of BW / Live was fun at the time because it was ex-Ableton employees, IIRC, basically emulating the hybrid of M4L’s modulators with Ableton’s general workflow. I’ve still got a lite version if you want to check that out, but I wish I could say the same about FL
