When [you] Sat Down To Write A Project…

its actually difficult for me to write music for other people or to other people’s standards. Tapping into the zeitgeist of the world never did much for me in terms of writing songs. Might be the autism that does that. I’m a very insular person to begin with. OTOH, just putting something together and then putting 15 somethings together that adds up to an album or a set, yeah, do want. Just a roundabout way of saying i don’t follow trends or even know what they are. that’s a blessing and a curse at times.

By the way…. How the hell are you broski? Haven’t seen you in a minute but I haven’t really been here much as of late either.

I do want too. I feel like my only ideas for larger projects have come from period writing in similar sounds and sometimes similar keys. But then sorting it all has been an intersecting process. I’m back there now but I haven’t been “finishing” much to warrant an attempt. I did do a sort but it’s gone back down to 10ish ideas and 10ish beats. So the arranging and addition stuffs still has to happen and I don’t even think I like any of it but the potential beat sampling.

You’re welcome to replay. I know you have an interesting journey as well but I’ve seen or read it in bits and prices over the years with some assumed stuffs.

Also, I know RFJ is still around and while he put a lot of backstory into that one release, I’d like to hear about his future endeavors since, more. I remember seeing IG stuffs the last time I was hear with a preacher he recorded. At least I think it was a preacher type.

And auto too. If he’s still here. I know or remember him taking a semi break and diving head first into gaming production, not sure if just code side stuffs or music as well.

Doing ok bro. I wouldn’t say doing great but not terrible haha. From 2021 until maybe June of this year i have been in a weird spot where I’m making music sporadically but haven’t shown anything to anyone for three years. A new 13 song album is pretty much done. Whole new project/vibe. Gearing up to get that polished and released now.

Yes yes I often think why deadmau5 is sooooooooo good??? for what reason???

I’m not sure I understand your comment, but I’m not super familiar with deadmau5 or his music.

On the surface he seems like a good dude who’s put in a lot of hard work. I can respect that, but I’ve seen a lot of people work extremely hard without getting anywhere near his level of success.

Hard work is important, of course, but alone it’s rarely enough. You also need good social skills and charisma, a solid network of useful contacts, business skills, people who’ll support you financially when you fuck up - and the luck to be in the right place at the right time.

so new here but i’ve been making weird music since 1995ish. In terms of how i approached things then vs now, there’s a little bit of a difference, but I’ve never really set out to make something specific. I’ve always started from a place of experimentation and what sort of things in my head i can successfully create a soundtrack before. Even when trying to “make it” as an avant-garde/noise/experimental act i didn’t start with an idea to make really anything specific. that’s kind of the enjoyment of working in such a space: it’s expected to be different and challenging.

i think the biggest difference for me now is that i’m not really working with anyone else anymore (longish story) so instead of limiting aspects of what i’m working on to what instruments others would bring ideas for, i’m doing all the ideas. so i try doing different things that i might not have in the past.

I’m pretty fortunate that i’ve had a fairly successful career in IT so I haven’t had to try and make it with music. But i’m driven to make music as my art. it’s what i love to do and every time i’ve turned something i’ve loved into a job i’ve kind of regretted it because it becomes a job and not something i love.

I don’t understand why is he doing what he is doing because he got it all. I mean why is he continue making music when he got millions dollars and success and etc. :grinning:

I mean if I got it all then I quit music immediately.

If I didn’t have such a lousy life, I wouldn’t be making music. Yes, I probably have a normal life, I’m just a fool. Also I hate music.

Can’t tell if you’re trolling or not but just speaking generally here. I would say that most people make music because they enjoy it. For many different reasons. If i had enough cash to survive comfortably without working, i would be making music as much as i could. I have been fortunate enough to always have a job that I love, and so it hasn’t felt too much like work. It does keep me away from my family and making music though so that part sucks.

This is both the best and worst part of not working with other musicians. You have complete creative control, but without the fallback of your counterparts ideas when you run out of them.

Knowing i can do whatever i want with the bass has been really nice as it’s allowed me to have a more cohesive rhythm, but omg when i’m out of ideas and can’t find sounds that work it gets sooooo frustrating.

If i suddenly got millions of dollars I’d soon after have a million dollar studio built on a nice piece of land and a lot more toys to play with.

I’d quit my day job and do nothing but work on music.

I was JUST daydreaming of “if I had a million dollars” the music studio version.

To better understand me i suggest you and other to watch this episode South Park - Season 13, Ep. 7 - Fatbeard - Full Episode | South Park Studios US Timestamp 18:40

I think about the same thing about music as they go about piracy. I condemn piracy, of course.

Take this as a joke, of course.
