i really need to start experimenting with using all the video footage i have to make videos.

Yeah, me too. For now, I’m just creating short videos like this one https://www.youtube.com/shorts/HSPCopXVCes using InShot and OBS. But I really want to learn how to make animated videos.

i looked into animated videos and Unreal Engine seems to be the “easiest” (and i use that term loosely) to get started with. though i honestly haven’t looked to see what adobe did with flash that i could use for animation (was a flash developer in a previous life). i’ve also thought about using ai for raw video i can manipulate, but ai video is so time consuming and costly.

I tried using https://lumalabs.ai/ to generate AI videos. I got some funny results, but I’m not sure how people will feel about AI-generated content.

On the other hand, I used Unity when it first came out to create video games back when I was a C# developer :innocent:, but I never considered Unreal! It seems like a great idea.

In the meantime, I’ve been thinking about using old public domain videos for my projects. I’m not sure how well they’ll integrate with Unreal, but I won’t judge without trying. As they say, the sky’s the limit! :star_struck:

so far lumalabs has generated the closest to what i’m looking for, largely because i love how close to my dreams things behave. but i’d have to sit down and really think through how to prompt it for a series of related videos. I know using AI can be contentious (and honestly i’d rather story board with ai and pay an actual person to do the work from there) but i really view it as another tool I can use to get my creative ideas out. But the training data used is highly unethical. So it’s up to us to find how to use it ethically. I approach it as Augmented Intelligence instead of Artificial Intelligence.

for using public domain inside unreal, i’m pretty sure when i was investigating it, there are ways to do it. but i haven’t read or researched much in the last year. I haven’t gone farther than research as i have a 10 year old mac mini (that needs to be replaced asap) that won’t run the unreal engine. So once i replace the mini with a new mini (or studio) then i’ll look into downloading it. I love the 2D stuff it can do and the fact that you can wire it up so you can control the characters you create. The stuff Amon Tobin is producing with unreal are so incredibly cool.

I completely agree, Amon Tobin is an incredible artist who has consistently innovated and created breathtaking, one-of-a-kind aesthetics. While I’m not familiar with what he’s done with Unreal, it doesn’t surprise me at all that he’s pushing the boundaries of creativity with this technology. His ability to transform sounds and visuals into immersive experiences is truly unique.

Amon is absolutely incredible. all the latest videos that have come out as “promos” for new material are all made with unreal. i love the nomark club because we get some info that isn’t available to all related to their process and such. easily one of my best yearly subscriptions.
