Bitwig thread

I think it doesn’t do the rewire thing, but not sure.

until they resolve the fan issue on macs, I can’t use bitwig or even take it seriously, sadly.
the fan runs loud and fast whenever bitwig is open, even with an empty session!
it has something to do with how graphics are rendered in bitwig on macs, specifically. it’s been this way for 2 years now. I sold my license as a result, because no progress was being made. bummer, because otherwise I really like a lot of what BWS is doing.

Sorry to hear that! But glad it’s a Mac-only issue - you guys have exclusive access to some cool stuff like Logic, Metasynth and Soundmagic on Mac, so it’s just fair I guess

Hell yeah, version 6 is out. (I’m late on this, but I don’t care)

The AI voice they used in the videos is a really bad touch (sounds like a snobby cunt with an irregular cadence, really), but they new features seem cool as hell. I haven’t even begun to delve into it all, but the dark-ish theme it boots with is really nice on the eyes.

Global snapping to scale is pretty cool, even though it means almost nothing if you’re a Gridnerd, but having some of those modern tools on hand is nice. Seems less buggy on Ubuntu, too (say that 5 times), so being able to jam again is actually really awesome. I can’t wait to check out some of the editing updates, even though I hardly ever use those.

Still, most underrated DAW on the planet. I’m going to likely cry when my updates run out :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I just saw that they have a new major version out yesterday by chance
They need to make more promo or at least send emails to users lol….

Haven’t tested it yet, but the automation improvements sound nice…

Just got a terrible crash when trying to save a clip / track to my library where it just exited and ruined everything. Looks like I won’t be saving that cool thing I made after all :frowning:

I’ve had a lot of this type of shit happen lately, regardless of OS, where Bitwig just goes down in flames when it’s supposed to ‘sandbox’ itself from eternal damnation or whatever. It always works for plugin issues, but their janky UI always does something stupid and it either decides to prevent saving or just closes everything out from under you.

It’s undoubtedly my favorite DAW, and still home base or whatever you want to call it for me, but I really wonder when they’re going to just get the UI in order. If you don’t compulsively save, and still realize it won’t always be enough to recover what’s lost, you’re pretty much fucked.

Sorry to hear that, but it’s good to know as a warning…

I often bounce a lot in complex projects since I had too many strange errors happen in both Bitwig and Ableton when things get complicated… Also, even though I updated Bitwig instead of Ableton last time, my latest finished project was done in Ableton - I like many things in Bitwig better, but Live is still my convenience DAW where I can work faster and I still prefer it when I don’t have much time and also for working with wav files and bounced stuff…

I plan and hope to dive deeper into Bitwig 6 over the coming months.
