Autechre Appreciation Thread

I might be a bit late but this post caught my eye. I absolutely love Autechre, and totally agree on the abstract perspective. I’m also glad they’re not one of the artists that seemingly abandoned their work back in the 2010’s.

I notice that their work has changed throughout the years, but I still enjoy (almost) all of their music. The mid-90’s definitely saw a more melodic approach (Incunabula, Lego Feet, Garbage, Etc.), but then, around the early 2000’s, the went towards a more percussive and sort of glitchy approach (Confield, Gantz Graf, Untilted, Etc.). Both era’s for me are great, but I prefer the glitchy outlook better. I’ve always preferred texture over melody in music, but both are still necessary in my opinion.

It totally bothers me.

I was watching a Luke Vibert live set tonight and yeah yeah it was Boiler Room whatever but literally the entire set is this chav live stream/recording him from his back side. like what are you even DOING? are you going to post this on your special bootleg site? Are you going to watch this whole thing later when they professional video is distributed for free? What the fuck?

Yeah Idk, it relieves me when I go to a show that most everyone has their phones put away. It gives me hope. it’s happened a few times lately.

the few shows i’ve ben to in my small town nobody has a single phone out. that may be since i go to the metal and punk shows, but everyone’s either there to mosh or watch the damn band. it’s pretty nice, but i may just never notice since i’m always in the pit.

I’ve learned to appreciate it more over the years, for the longest time it was my least listened to release by them.
