BB101 - Acidhead's Delight

You’re at the IDMF acid rave.
You were invited to perform!

The crowd is bummed out by the lack of excitement, originality, and energy thus far. You’re up next to perform and the MC has just barely managed to convince the crowd that you’re worth the hope and hype they had in store for their Friday night out.
You’re on stage and decide to open with your own track…

Don’t let the crowd down. The rest of the night is riding on your ability to please them.

THE RULES:

  1. You must use either the 808, 909, or RX-5 as the core of your percussion.
  2. One of the breaks provided must be utilized in your track.
  3. You must have at least one acid melody or bassline within your song.

You are not restricted to usage of whatever is contained within the sample pack:
All else goes - BPM, genre, major/minor, vox/fx, additional perc, synths, etc. etc. is all up to you.

MFXxx is going to donate NI’s The Finger 2 (The Finger + The Finger R2 UPDATE from NI) to the winner of BB101. Winner will need to set up a Native Instruments account for license if not already owning one.

Thank you MFXxx!

Deadline:
8/15/19 - 11:59 PM EST

BB100 - Beat Battle Royale

I was literally sitting here twiddling my TB-03 as this was posted, so I love the idea behind this one. However, I think we should seriously consider some fairly low upper limit on the number of samples that can be included in the sample pack for battles. In my opinion, the whole point of these battles is to work quickly within fairly restrictive limitations. But now I’m forced to sit here and chose from hundreds of kicks, snares, etc. You’re killing me, man! I already do this anyway regularly and turn to these to… not do that. Just gimme one of each so I don’t have to think about this shit!

#3

overcoming indecisiveness is the lowkey challenge that 24 didn’t include in the description :smiling_imp:

#4

hey kim I wanted to point out this sample pack is dope, but it’s 100% percussion.

My specialty. Not a bad change up, considering it’s "beat" battle.

I plan to sample quite a bit, but other than some acid feature, I’m going to go haywire on custom synths and keys for melodies.

Could lead to some really diverse submissions this time around. Nice.

#5

haaayle yea… i’m ready

#6

Paging @liquid_air

#7

Loaded a dozen one shots into Volca Sample, so that’s my drum kit for this. Take that, indecisiveness!

#8

omgomgomg beatbattle :))))))))))))

Thanks host
I think I’ll enjoy this one

#9

my 7zip cant access rar file, anyone know of a free way i can unzip this?

#10

My music machine had problems w/ it as well so I extracted it (on another machine) & recompressed it into a tar.gz. https://files.catbox.moe/v6kima.gz

#11

Which version? I didn’t have that problem and I was on 18 beta. But looks like 19 is already out too. Update.

#12

I had no troubles using 7zip on it. I have 7-Zip 17.01 beta (x64).

EDIT: Oh man, it seems I’m 2-3 versions behind! 7-zip is on 19.00! Perhaps I should upgrade (pending if @bfk was able to unzip the rar with the latest).

#13

update worked thx guise

here is my bb thing fyi forgot about the 808 rule, but did sample the waveform of the rimshot sample to make the pads don’t know if that counts, whateves if that disqualifies me, its ok

Free TB303 Bass Line emulator from YOOSMusic (32/64 bit):

https://yoozmusic.com/yooz-bl-303/

Note that slides/accents are controlled with midi velocity values (see the included manual for details).

question:

is rule number 1 saying that we need to use one drum machine exclusively? or do we just have one be the main focus with the others sprinkled in?

#19

One machine, you can sprinkle, but it must remain clear whether or not you are using the 909 808 or RX7. One section must contain a break sample.

#20

@chasedobson Great to see you back mate. How did you get almost 400 plays in 5 days for the comp?
@theusername24 and @all Im not going to be able to make this one, away on hols. However as acid is always close to my soul, Im going to donate to the winner NI’s The Finger 2 (The Finger + The Finger R2 UPDATE from NI)>
Appreciate its late notice, but hell Im selling it on KVRAudio and Id rather just start giving some of the stuff away to participants on IDMF. Its not a huge prize, but its something from my personal pocket
