Headphones?

Hey guys, looking for a new pair of studio headphones, as my Bose AE2s are getting on the older side. Any suggestions of quality stuff?

My budget would be within 100-200 dollars.

What's the main difference between the 280 and 380?

EDIT: Looks like the difference is just cosmetic and structural.

Re: Headphones?

I'd probably vote for either the Sennheisers or the Beyerdynamics mentioned already. I'm an AKG fanboy, but it seems they rarely get mentioned in electronic music circles.

But what about the AKG's created by Tiesto? I mean if you wanna be a real big time player, you need these!

Re: Headphones?

I'd say over the ones mentioned in this thread I'd second both the Beyerdynamic and the AKG, not the Tiesto ones though. I tested both the AKG k702 and the Beyerdynamic DT 880. In the end wound up keeping the Beyerdynamic over the AKG but mainly due to form factor / comfort because in a side by side sound test they are both highly functional for mixing.

As for the Beyerdynamic line in general I haven't tested any other than the 880 but those I picked because, generally speaking, I think an opened back can to be much better for mixing than a closed.

Protip - Stay away from the M50's. I'd say most people you'll read who rave over them have little experience w/ anything else.

Mentioned the M50's due to the sound difference between the currently used adn those.Less of an ear learning curve.Producers tend to like them personally never used them..as far as open vs closed..your room..noisey room closed quiet room open..

Only "Pro" tip I could add would be to put as many sets on your ears as you can and listen to tracks that you know extremely well..cans like monitors are a very personal choice. but nothing beats hearing as many as you can with your own ears.

Just so we're clear I was in no way referring to you when I said "most people" because you're not most people. Far from it actually. Was going to try and clarify it in my original reply but couldn't make it happen naturally.

Re: Headphones?

also...don't retire or sell your Bose since you know them...a/b in on those and the new ones will help you make sense of things on the new headphones. I listen to my mixes on three pairs of head phones and three sets of speakers.

Yeah I plan on that. Already listen to mixes in the car stereo as well, and a system in my basement.
Good idea

Did not even take that way my friend..not at all..was only clarifiing my m50 reference a little better is all.In case anyone was wondering why I had that as a suggestion..was going to write that in originally but my thought process and fingers never seem to match up..
