Ableton: Layering drums with a midi controller while the drum pattern/clip loops

Pretty sure I saw this in a tutorial video once or twice; I'd like to have a clip looping while I add/record drum sounds to it using an akai mpd32 (basically a midi controller version of an MPC if your not familiar). For example I'd trigger the hi hats the first pass, then in a later pass trigger the kick and snare, and so on, and the clip should retain all of the notes triggered.

I had no problem setting up the controller to trigger drum sounds through the drum rack or 3rd party au plugins, i just cant remember how to get into this clip looping recording mode. As a default when i record a midi clip, it will just continue running and not loop, as you cant change the settings of a clip before it exists. What am I missing. (i know its probably obvious but its driving me nuts right now.

Grazzi!

In Arrangement View:

Session View is quite straight-forward, just make sure OVR (overdub is on).

@Scyn; Thanks for the perfect advice. I just never use the overdub button, as I previously programmed all my midi clips. But a graphic response is always fun.

@gbsr; Thats the worst advice I've ever been given. I should read basically half the manual just to find one button. Of course I checked the manual, I just couldn't remember the proper terminology, and it certainly wasn't the word MIDI.

BTW sorry for the late late response, I'd forgotten I even posted, but I appreciate the info.

I hardly think someone asking you to take a look at the manual (you know, the thing that tells you how something WORKS) is bad advice for your question (about how something WORKS).
