Re: The ultimate IDMf Community project?

I hope I don't get shot for this, I did lurk a little bit of the thread, but I still don't really see what the "hype section" would offer over the listening booth.

Both are places you put your music to get feedback, and with the feedback, also attention on the stuff you are putting out.

Is this more for full projects like albums or EPs or...?

This is also for non-music projects, like sound design challenges and "game making month"

the way i see it, and don't take it as gospel because of the admin tag as to this is how it should be, is the yet to be named correctly "hype" section would have all stuff in it members want to promo - parties, radio shows, podcasts, their own personal projects/labels/kickstarters/whatever and so on that they want support/contributions/ etc etc for.

Community projects would then have stuff in it that's solely IDMf based for solely IDMf members, such as what auto mentioned in the post above and so on

the listening booth is only for posting tracks/WIPs and ask for feedback whereas this non-idmf projects section would be for any kind of project

I agree this simplifies the process, and makes sense.
i know i haven't been too active lately, but that's largely due to a never ending series of unfortunate events. However, now that i am home i intend to get more involved, including perusing the listening booth more often.which incidentally i have been lurking and have some concerns about that section.anyway that's my 2 cent's worth.:victory::victory:

Re: The ultimate IDMf Community project?

I'd be down with a 'Hype' area - maybe a different name, but the idea is fine. I never browse specific sections by section. I know there was some concern that people might not see anything in such a specific area, but I think lots of us browse using the 'New Posts' anyways.

I think the promo sections don't get a ton of responses because unless its someone's project we care about, most people will just ignore it.

If we are removing things from community projects, then we really should get some sort of community projects going to that area doesn't feel empty.

How hard is it for people to click yes or no, lol. There were 200 people on here and we still only have 35 votes. I guess it's human nature, to just lurk in the shadows.

Re: The ultimate IDMf Community project?

There isn't really much I can offer or say that hasn't already been said here in this thread. I'm all for anything which makes this place better than it already is and helps streamline things even more.

A general "hype" section is a good idea I think..though, as has already been stated, it will more than likely end up only been used or visited by those concerned. I don't think there is any solid way to change that, other than making it a landing page when folks log in..and that's basically a shite idea in reality, as not everyone would appreciate being "pushed" anywhere..on this forum or elsewhere..even more so if they aren't interested to begin with.

The only other thing I'd suggest regarding a "hype" section is to keep it completely apart from the "IDMf Community Projects Section"..that way all things IDMf will remain that way and clearly understood as such by everyone..otherwise some WILL get confused and things could end up getting messed up a bit.

I do think you guys need to give some serious thought on the whole "who can post" as well and what the requirements for the say will be..just so it stops the whole thing from being abused and making even more work for the admin/Mods on here. IF you end up with a load of crappy posts like, "Hey guys..I'm having a party this weekend at my house" kind of thing, then it will soon die on it's feet, as people will just stop visiting that section of the forum.

In other words..a section like the one suggested is all well and good..and needed..but I think there needs to be some sort of "quality" maintained. I don't know how you would achieve that and my apologies for making statements like that without being able to offer some sort of suggestions to help with the same.

Other than that, I think you guys are doing a bang up job as it is..we just need folks to be more active, but that's a personal use thing I guess..people will and do drop in when they want to.

yea i agree with this, maybe a minimum of 300 posts or something?
maybe not that many? just enough to stop people signing up, posting a couple of one word replies, then posting their crap in there.

the poll has ended, and it's obvious a new section is wanted for this stuff.
So, with the talk turning again towards who can post in it (and here to) what does everyone feel is fair?

All "badged" members can freely start threads.
All none badged members threads go to mods for approval.

i want to say 300 for the "hype" section, because its a good number to ensure that people wont just post up their number using crap. by the time they get to 100 (most people) will get bored
maybe thats too many though?

for the community area i dont think it should be that high though, but it should be strictly for IDMF related stuff, im thinking maybe 50-100 posts at the most.
as mentioned before, we could miss out on great ideas from newcomers if we restrict it too much.

or how about a review method, where the thread needs to be reviewed by a mod before it goes live if you have less than X amount of posts. that could work in both sections. do we even have that function here? i know a lot of forums do it.

Perhaps a mixture of the two is what's called for..non-badged members need to have a certain number of posts, say, 100 (..I think 300 like you suggested, is a bit excessive, even though I understand your reasoning for such a high number), but their posts will still need to be approved by a Mod. Whereas badged members are free to post unrestricted.

This way, those who have been around here a while, like OB as you mentioned, will be known to the Mods anyway and there shouldn't be any problem..but the system would still be in place to deal with those who might just want to spam.

I do think lolirl's idea is the most workable and straightforward though..plus it also adds to the whole badge thing and lends some importance to actually getting one, which, I think, would be a good thing for the community spirit on here in any case.

Basically the mods gotta ask themselves a question: will they get more shit for having a 300 post limit, or for denying somebody's post?

Re: The ultimate IDMf Community project?

I gave this some thought, and i do think the limit should be raised.
and meaningful post's should mean just that!
none of this one or two word bs that goes on to raise thread count's,that really bugs me.
The badge thing i think is a little unfair, but that's just my opinion.
as for the number of posts,i think the admins and mods should get together and really hash this out.
I really don't know what's fair in that area.but i do know on some forums i use admin permission is required, but again i don't know if that's the direction you want to go?
anyway i hope my input helps a little.great job guy's!

Oatbags badge from IDMf042 fell through the cracks so he should have one. As such I think badges are a solid way to determine if you can post there or not. It works for the underused IDMf artists center. It'd be up to the poster to make sure they they get their badge if posting in that area is something they are looking to do.
