fl studio and zed fx noise

Hi,

I have a small thing that keeps on bodering me.
I use a Allen and heath zedfx12 as usb input, to record in fl studio. The signal is clean, untill i switch on fl studio to record. Then there is a humming, mid- frequency, humming in fl studio to record. So, once I want to record in a DAW, I have noise thru USB.

Does anyone have an idea, on how to avoid this?

Cheers

Re: fl studio and zed fx noise

Probably something to do with grounding. I don't know how the power outlets work where you are. Is he mixer usb powere? If it is, can you use power supply anyway? Try hooking the power supply into different power outlets if possible. You can also purchase a 'ground loop isolator.' This might do the trick.

Re: fl studio and zed fx noise

if you are going to purchase something buy midi controller and send your mixers to retirement for good, everyone is ditching them out slowly
if its grounding problem and you dont have ground where you live, just connect ground to large sheet of metal or table (if its metallic)

Re: fl studio and zed fx noise

I can almost 100% guarantee it is a grounding issue.

Is your computer a desktop of laptop? If its a laptop try running your mixer via USB and running the computer on battery. If the noise goes away you can simply get a ground lifter to put on the end of the computer power supply.

If the problem persists, try the ground lifter on the mixer power supply. If it still makes noise, try lifting both.

the US ground lift adapters look like this:

if one, say, has like... you know... instruments and hardware fx n' stuff.... A mixer can be quite beneficial.

sure, if you want to use a computer and a controller exclusively there is no need.

AND, if you take a look at the picture in the OP's Soundcloud signature, you'll see quite a bit of those pesky instruments so... there is likely a need.

Re: fl studio and zed fx noise

First off, thanks everyone for your quick response.
1. Zedfx is only powered thru poweroutlet (belgian-european)
2. I'm not ditching my hardware for this
3. the noise starts once I enable fl studio Input to the mixer. So this, seems to me, either a
FL studio thing(ASIO drivers) or power outlet issue as mentioned, but would this be the PC
outlet?
4. I'll record the noise; It's minimal, but pressent.

Thanks again, untill tomorrow

Re: fl studio and zed fx noise

- Can you test it standalone and see if you're getting the same signal noise when operating only hardware connected to the mixer?
- Do you get the same signal noise when you try it on a different machine via USB?
- Is your power cable/supply touching anything?
- Have you tried a different power cable/supply if you have one spare?

Re: fl studio and zed fx noise

So here is a sample. first five seconds don't have gain, second part with gain. both with silence intervals.

I know it is so minimal, and the white noise isn't even audible without gain, but it's that high pitch. It's anoying, but I'm under the impression that it doesn't get recorded as loud as it actually is, is this even possible???

First time using private track on soundcloud seems to be a bit to private
