I've been real flush with all my Christmas gigs so I went in for a legit version of Ableton - time to pay the piper and the features in 9.5 are really saving me a lot of time. (you mean there isn't a Waves PAZ meter on every track in your project?!?!) This, from what I've heard, was addressed with 9.2 but all my MIDI latency just fixed itself and that's something I've been struggling with for a while. Audio latency no problems - got that sorted since the get go - but why my controllers/clock were always off and I could never get my interface to cooperate. Plus once I went through and switched all the delays on in the midi menu shit might work but then if I changed my sample buffer for whatever reason, I was SOL. It still isn't perfect but it's a far cry closer to the truth when it comes to getting things in the DAW in time. Totally happy but now I just need to quick working so much so I can actually enjoy it.
I was looking at the Push 2 but instead opted for Push 1. The only thing that I saw that was really new about the 2 was seeing the waveform while sampling, which isn't worth the $400 extra imo. I've been enjoying the push 1, it's been the only thing I have while I'm away from my regular setup, but I honestly find it to be suboptimal compared to my keyboard for controlling synth sounds. Otherwise I love it though.
I have upgraded to a Push 2 from a novation Launchkey, the difference is night and day.
What's amazing about push is how fast you can get a groove up and running. It's really worth investing time creating a few "go-to" drumkits. The ability to program series of clips with alternate versions of you main jam and adjust stuff like levels and swing on the flay is great.
However I'm not sold on the pads, I kit the pads the velocity is all over the place . I have messed around with the settings but can't get get it how I like it, apparently it's a bug that ableton are working on.
I'd advise having a play with push in a shop if you can before you drop the cash.
- How long away do you think Push 3 and Live 10 is? Maybe it's worth waiting for
- Can you modulate each button function? For example can I automate the "1/4, 1/4t, 1/8, 1/8t, 1/16, 1/16t, 1/32, 1/32t" keys so that I can get more unique tempos? How in depth can I go with this?
- How in depth can I warp?

I've been going with the betas since may due to a weird glitch crashing when converting audio to a drum rack. I've been super happy with where they've been going with this. Ableton + push totally works for my old school hardware sensibilities.
