for example, custom diy controller with LED feedback (aka monolake-ish), complete integration with maxmsp over osc and all that shit. someone made a morphing preset switcher using the old live api code only (yep, the one from liveapi.org way back then), so yeah. start scripting why dont you

also, dont be afraid to share your setups and whatnots.

HOT KEYS....when you want to add a midi/audio ch.

right click the mouse and there you have the listing for the keyboard commands.

It's usually ctrl+ something else

Thanks for this.. absolutely brilliant and exactly what I'm trying to get myself into at the moment. I spent an unhealthy amount of time last night creating templates for my RemoteZero!

Major respect!

Re: Tutorial: Ableton live - no mouse/keyboard navigation + performance.

bah, I'm on a mac, using the IAC Driver, but I can't figure out the remote midi sampling part (which is the one i need)... Could any patient mind help me out? I got something close once, but it was really inaccurately annoying (It only gets the spikes).. Through your setup it just doesn't work out...

Re: Tutorial: Ableton live - no mouse/keyboard navigation + performance.

Yeah, i get ur point xD The problem is my english really sucks, I understand it well, but it's always a major problem to tell whats going in my mind >_<

Hmm, so let's try to explain this: My point in Ableton Live ain't really making a no-mouse set; I'm looking forward for a laptop+MIDI controller set.
But I think I'm missing something here. I don't need any midi translations for the midi sampling part, do I?
My situation: having my MIDI ports configured like yours (the only difference is that I use IAC Driver) I don't get any midi commands in my midi sampling track (i only get midi from notes). The "midi track in" lights (the ones in the corner) don't even flash when i turn a knob. I think I'm missing something; maybe I'm not even getting the point of this.. If you could explain better the routing of that I think I could work it out.

Re: Tutorial: Ableton live - no mouse/keyboard navigation + performance.

hm. have you set your controller up correctly?
remote control, and while youre at it you might aswell set it to track aswell.

also, is the midi track armed? it wont take any midi unless it is armed, and ofcourse set to the right channel (or omni heh).

if you still cant figure it out, could you perhaps throw up a screenie of the MIDI IO section (in live) and the track setup in session view. see if we take it from there heh.

Re: Tutorial: Ableton live - no mouse/keyboard navigation + performance.

oh and no, you shouldnt need any translators, the translators are mainly there to move the cursor around and hit enter and whatnots, so i just push a button to start resampling. if you are using your mouse anyways, it shouldnt matter at all.

Re: Tutorial: Ableton live - no mouse/keyboard navigation + performance.

Hi, My name is Luis, musician, I play latin.

This forum is interesting, congrats. I've been using my Boss DR-3 Drum machine for already 5 years, and I really love it, but the sounds are now a bit outdated, so I was hunting a replacement for it, but no drum machine available is as good as my DR3, even the new Alesis SR-18, I just read the manual and it is not enough for my purposes.
But now I am starting to see Ableton Live as a good replacement, I don't like the Idea of bringing a laptop to the stage, but for the sound quality It is whorty.

I play keyboard, the bass with the left and the rest wih the right, I am very familiar with drum machines, and I just programmed a couple of sets in Live 4. I have Midi's Bome translator as well, I use it for everything together with a Behringer BCN44 controller.

I will first build some sets with drum patterns in ableton live, and I will test them playing live. but there is some small features that are a bit different than my drum machine. For example, in the DR3 there is a tap tempo buttom, but I can press it how many times I want, the song will not start until I hit the start buttom, I will like this same feature in Ableton's Live, does somebody know any work around for this?

Thanks and congrats again !

Luis
