Re: Is this the best snare ever?

No. It needs more bandpass at 200 with alot of resonance!

Re: Is this the best snare ever?

Sounds cool, but I prefer other snares. For instance I like "thunder"-drums like in some kind of rock music. More reverb!

Re: Is this the best snare ever?

Layer1: Kick sample(s) of choice -> BPF @ 200-ish, high res -> limiter
Layer2: Whitenoise -> HPF @ 1k. ADSR: Fast attack, adjust decay and noise color and/or sample rate to taste

Add some note delay/latency to the kick/kicks (say around 15ms) in order for the noise to create the "transient". Mix both layers/parallels to taste into a hard knee compressor (bus) with some attack and adjust thresh and release to taste. EQ and trim the summed output (lowcut at 100, cut 400 boxiness, boost some 1k for some knack, boost 3-6k for more snap).

+ a few more tricks that I haven't mentioned.

Interesting, so you don't think it's a snare sample at all?
I was thinking that they might've used a convolution reverb with a some type of metallic hit impulse. Because to me it sounds like more than just the typical dnb snare.

Re: Is this the best snare ever?

I think the snare on their "kill everybody" remix hits hard as well.

I also really like the "metal sounding" snares that Noisia makes/samples. Like this track.

Re: Is this the best snare ever?

there is a lit bit of backwash that makes it more punchy i think.
anyway, evelon you are saying that the sound of the snare is made only with a kick and some white noise? or with a snare + a kick + white noise?

Re: Is this the best snare ever?

Lol actually that snare is 2 things. Noisia uses that as well. Its a punchy snare (willing to bet its a processed vengance snare) layered with a percussive FM8 sounds which sounds like a metal pan. Its in noisia - shellshock

It could probably be layered with a real snare + tuned tom/kick/whatever + noise tail. There are no rules.

Re: Is this the best snare ever?

They really do spend time designing and perfecting their sounds and on top of that they make some awesome funky tunes. On the snare; it sounds like most well produced dubstep tunes snare out there.

Re: Is this the best snare ever?

The sequencing kind of reminds me of what Teddy Riley was doing on the Dangerous album. (Michael Jackson)

Re: Is this the best snare ever?

Its punchy but not big enough to be the "Best snare". I think it would be good with another snare ontop of it
